LOOK INTO MY EYES AND YOU'LL SEE HOW BAD I WANT IT
It had been a few years now since Maya had last been home; she'd left without much notice, though she didn't expect that a lot of people had been very surprised. The pack she'd been a part of since her birth was a local pack that had been around for as long as she could remember. Her entire family had been part of the same pack - not that that gave her much of a reason to stay.
But, she was back. For how long, she wasn't sure. She hadn't really gotten that far yet; New York hadn't worked out. Just like Chicago and Los Angeles hadn't. How long had it been since she'd walked the forests of her home town? How long had it been since she'd let the facade of a human skin drop and simply be?
Blue eyes narrowed as she stopped. She could tell from the sound alone that she wasn't the only one walking the path. She wasn't surprised, of course, but the scent struck her as unfamiliar. Had it really been that long? Was she no longer able to recognize her own pack members? The scent was masculine with a hint of musk and dirt; it was another werewolf. That much she could tell. She doubted another pack had settled down - and few strays came through these forests. Her own pack was too large and too well known. Werewolves didn't tread on unfamiliar territory - not without a good reason. The more of the scent that filled the air, the more it piqued something at the back of her mind; did she recognize it after all? Then why couldn't she place it?
Maya raised her hand and brushed a strand of dark hair away from her face. "I can smell you, you know," she announced, her voice steady, yet she couldn't quite shield the unsteady beating of her heart. He could hear it - she was sure of it.

The beast you made me Being born into a pack of wild animals had its perks and its downfalls. It was all about perspective though. Some of the pack members thought that being connected was an invasion of privacy. Everyone was in everyone's business, but that was no different than being a family. This way was more effective because they all immediately knew when something was wrong and could act without hesitating.
One could call Nicholas a real pack man. He thought of the pack in everything he did. He wasn't the goody goody who followed every rule, but he respected the mentality of the pack and he respected the consequences that he often had to face. For instance, he knew he probably should have been careful walking the territory boundaries without being in form. Ah well, his instincts were good enough for now.
He's caught onto the scent of his former pack mate before she had noted his, and so he took to stalking her until she caught on. Nick found himself smirking when he heard the frantic beating of her heart. She'd always tried to play tough, but he knew she was anxious. All he could do was hope that she couldn't still kick his ass if he scared her. Her voice rang out and he huffed before appearing just in front of her.
"Good to know you're not completely off your game kid." 237 | @eos | notes ulla

LOOK INTO MY EYES AND YOU'LL SEE HOW BAD I WANT IT
Maya had come to learn many things during her travels; one of which being that a lone werewolf without a pack was a weak werewolf. It wasn't that she denied her heritage or even disliked being a werewolf. In fact, Maya loved everything about it. The freedom of running through the woods, the enhanced senses and everything that usually followed. But she wasn't a group person. She never had been.
As the familiar frame of a long lost friend appeared in front of her, Maya pursed her lips. Arms came up to cross over her chest and her blue eyes narrowed further. "Yeah, well," she shrugged. She was off her game; all that time spend in larger cities hadn't granted her much practice and her senses had grown dull. "We'll see how long it takes me to get back in the groove." She was nothing if not prideful.
From a female perspective, she could appreciate the way her pack member had grown in all the right ways; she'd known Nick since he'd been a child and part of her (at least before she'd left) had kept seeing him that way. He'd grown much taller and much broader than her, though, she wasn't sure what else she'd expected given that she hadn't been home since she'd been a teenager.
Grinning then, Maya let out a low whistle. "You sure got big, N," she announced, slightly amused, "Whatever they're feeding you, keep letting 'em."

The beast you made me Despite the years and the way her familiarity had dulled compared to what it had been back then, he still knew Maya from a mile away. She'd been one of the guys growing up, easily could have beat any of them when they were wrestling around in either form. Nick had started as one of the runts of the pack, younger than most of the other guys around their age group so he'd been viciously hazed. Shortly after she left when puberty struck, Nicholas had doubled the size of half of his friends and out muscled all of them. He took it upon himself to constantly be better than he was in every aspect. And in doing so, he'd gotten to be much more abrasive and arrogant. He'd been put through hell to be a force that would be reckoned with. She didn't know the half of it by any means. He wondered if during her time away she'd gotten anything from the old signal.
Nicholas didn't let himself dwell on her absence and instead focused on how very slow she'd gotten. He shrugged, "if you're thinking about coming back, you're gonna want to shake off the weights holding you back. Looking a little out of shape. My guess is it'll take you a couple months to catch back up." He bounced back and forth on his toes in front of her. Nick was in the best shape of his life and he was happy to know that she'd noticed. Then again, the amount of attention he'd been getting was immeasurable compared to his younger days, so he couldn't blame her for noticing.
"I'll be sure to mention that to the nutritionist," he rolled his eyes and then fell into step beside her so that they could continue the path. Nick gave her a side glance, he too noticed that she'd grown up nicely. She'd always been one of the best looking girls in the pack, but now, she was unprecedented. He looked down at their feet in step, "What made you decide to walk these paths? I'm surprised you knew where you were headed?" While they walked, he kept his eyes on their feet and his ears scanning the trees for others, the way he had been trained to early on. 389 | @eos | notes ulla

LOOK INTO MY EYES AND YOU'LL SEE HOW BAD I WANT IT
She looked at him, brows furrowed in contemplation; she'd always taken pride in being one of the stronger pack members. Granted, that had also been around the time most her age hadn't even reached adulthood, but she'd had talent. Her anger issues usually helped her in terms of kicking someone's ass. "I'll keep that in mind," she replied.
He stepped on next to her and Maya continued walking forward. She knew these woods like the back of her hand, even if she hadn't been here for years. While she'd still lived here, she'd spent almost all of her time running through this forest. It wasn't something she'd easily forget. "Some things aren't as easily forgotten," she replied with a simple shrug.
As to why she'd picked the woods out of all the places she could first return to... Well, she supposed she felt more ties to these trees than her mother's house. Her mother and father had both been recognized members of the pack, though after her father left (not that she could remember him much) and her mother took to the bottle, their presence within the pack had been lacking. "Who's the alpha now?" she asked, curiously tilting her head. She wondered if it was still the same guy or if she'd truly missed out on a lot.

The beast you made me Nick couldn't say he'd have forgotten how to navigate his way through the woods they'd grown up in as easily either, however, he was still impressed by the very fact she still was so in tune with her instincts. He'd have forgotten how to use those a long time ago. Be it because he had forced himself to forget or simply because his body had given up on him. There were days he wondered if he would ever leave though. The answer was usually a solid no.
"Same guy, for now. Age is starting to take effect and I'm not so sure how much longer they'll wait before deeming him unfit." Nicholas felt his heartbeat quicken at the thought because he'd been one of the many talked about candidates. In some respect, every male in the pack wanted to be an alpha because they were prideful and taking orders from someone else could prove to be difficult. In Nick's case, he struggled to keep his disgust hidden when told to do something unfavorable. He was not a leader so to speak, but he definitely wasn't one of the sheep either that followed blindly. And there were a number of men in the pack that had it out for him. Came with the impeccable good looks and quick wit though.
Nick shrugged off the anxious feeling he got and considered his next question. What did one ask their long lost friend after so many years away? "How often did you slip while you were away? Hurt anybody? Kill anybody?" It was the right question, for the sake of saving face. If he didn't ask, someone else would and they might not handle it as well as he could. He knew her, he knew she wasn't a danger to the pack even though she'd been outside of it for a long time. He mostly worried about how she'd find a way back in. 328 | @eos | notes ulla

She had to nod at that; at least some things didn't change and for that, she was grateful. Although she didn't expect any favors to be thrown her way, the alpha had always been graceful enough to not give her the cold shoulder. Still, there was plenty of people who'd want to take his place; both male and female alike and Maya could think of a few that'd claw their way to the top if offered the chance. Huffing, she shook her head; she could only hope the next was chosen out of democracy and not who kicked whose ass better. "No wonder," she said with another shake of her head. "He's been an alpha for as long as I can remember." Even with their slowed aging, they wouldn't remain at their peak forever.
His question had her turning her gaze forward, suddenly very interested in the road ahead. Still, her respons didn't waver. "I came close a few times," she admitted. "But I sort of got the hang of when to let myself go so that I wouldn't accidentally turn in the middle of a human infested street." She tossed him a sideways glance before shrugging.
Maya tucked her hands into the pockets of her sweater and looked upwards, studying the familiar sky. "Does my mother ever come to any of the meetings?" she asked. She wasn't sure if she really wanted an answer; her mother had lost a lot of her touch with the rest of the pack and she'd usually be drunk and try to pick a fight whenever someone said something that annoyed her. She wondered if her mother would at all be welcome still.

The beast you made me Nick nodded. He'd come to respect their current alpha. He'd been around for as long as they both could remember and he'd been raised to look up to the alpha. After all, with the mistake that Nicholas had been, the alpha had never once made him feel like he didn't belong. Both he and his mother had been well taken care of because of that man, not because the pack necessarily accepted where he came from or how he came to be. A wolf mating outside of the pack was sort of looked down on and him being a child of that, well, he had his fair share of bullying growing up. To see the alpha be dethroned, Nick could only wonder what it was going to be like for his family. Certain people would be keen on uprooting them completely and making him leave, he'd been doing his best to keep that from happening.
He tensed when she admitted to coming close. That was always their greatest fear when someone detached themselves from the pack. If there was anyway for it to be traced back to them, a lot of things could go very wrong. But she hadn't. Of course she hadn't. Nick's shoulders relaxed back and he kept his eyes forward as he nodded in response.
Her question caught him off guard, but he supposed he couldn't blame her for wondering. Nick had migrated towards the back corner to observe the meetings over the years. In his early years he always did what he could to be front and center, but as time went on he felt the weight of who he was and how he fit in and eventually claimed his corner. But as he migrated, he made note of who he knew. Where his friends were, where his enemies were and in there he found that Maya's mother had also found her way to the outskirts of the pack. Since Maya left, he figured she was trying to be something different than what she had been, but Nicholas couldn't vouch for that. "Yes. More so now than she did right after you left," He glanced sideways at her to gauge her reaction.
