The Boy Next Door
"Stoppp, gross. No. No more," He waved his hands in front of her and shook his head. Nick was a smol bean who never spoke of matters inside the bedroom. Hearing his younger aunt/cousin/sister/best friend talk about it was just disturbing.
"Fair enough," Nicholas could accept the answer she gave because on both sides, they didn't have backing down in their genes. Not that Patch was a particularly aggressive person, but if he'd been one to back down from anything, he probably wouldn't have remained in Layla's life. "They let you become one," He smirked and tapped her nose. "Nah, my niece is gonna be the cutest, sweetest little nugget in the world. Forever. I'm not gonna let her be like you, ya crazy lunatic." Even as the insults flew, he looked at her as adoringly as he always had. Emma was the best person he knew and despite his words, he hoped Leah grew up to be exactly like her. "But even if she does end up like you, I'm sure she'll find her own version of me to love her anyway."
The joking fell flat when her tone changed and she reverted back to their previous topic. Nick wanted to be able to answer her with absolute certainty, but despite the cuts and bruises on his face, the pain that Liz always put him through just for one moment of love, he didn't know. He was so certain before that he'd been in love with her, but the more he thought on it, he wasn't sure of anything. And when he thought back to her mentioning of his neighbor, well, things just got more confusing still. "Yeah, Em. I will," it was the only thing he could say under the circumstances.
