The Underestimated Miles couldn't quite shake the feelings that were twisting in his stomach. The hope he felt was mixed with doubt and guilt and hurt, he couldn't focus on feeling just one. He needed a stress ball, or his sister, or his medication. It was one of those things that he'd become accustomed to since his manifestation. His panic attacks had come much more frequent and much more severe. It took him a bit of time to recover from them after he had one and the build up was always terrifying. He knew he was on the verge of one, but he wasn't going to let it come to that.
He'd moved to the States a long time ago, but his manifestation had been late. Empathy was easily covered up by someone who was just empathetic and compassionate. His panic attacks had started around the time of puberty, but they were always just pegged as a hormonal thing. He had an anxiety disorder, but no one tied it to an ability, especially because he couldn't quite manipulate anyone else's feelings, he just felt them on a strong level.
"It's been a couple of years," He muttered. His manifestation had happened only four years ago, or rather was caught four years ago. He hadn't found out about Will's transfer until just about two years ago and when he found out, he immediately did what he could to start searching. But by that point Will was no longer at the academy and he was in college, but Miles had no idea what he was going for, whether he lived on campus, where he could find him. He'd been given a number, but there was no personalized message for the voicemail, so he couldn't even be sure that it was Will's.

Anger instantly built in Cassidy's small body and it showed in her quaking hands and she had to rapidly check herself before she got a migraine. She was thankful, in that moment, that her abilities didn't manifest physically because if any of it escaped her, she was sure she could level the whole place at the rate she was going.
"You've been trying to get in touch with him for two years...and he hasn't responded?" She asked through gritted teeth. She had half a mind to march over to his place right then and punch the living daylights out of Will. Whatever fluttery emotion she had for him was erased at that moment and replaced with seething rage.
How could anyone do such a thing to Miles of all people?

When They Call My Name
These thoughts will kill me
Miles could feel her anger building and he shifted uncomfortably. He could understand why she might be angry, it wasn't right what his brother was doing and clearly she had feelings for him. The anger that was starting to build in her was also mirrored in him, but he had been trying to force it back. Between the anger she felt and the guilt that he felt, he wasn't sure what would happen. He needed to call Lottie, tell her that their brother was here, tell her that he was losing it. But he needed to calm Cas down somehow.
He bit his lip and focused his mind the way that he often had to with his sister. If he could just drown out the feelings that he was obtaining through Cas, he could go about this calmly. His hand rested on hers, "It's fine. Cassidy, I...we're different people. We're basically strangers, I can't...I can't blame him for that." Because in all fairness it wasn't his fault to begin with. Their parents had treated Will far worse than they had treated him and the way they treated Lottie had shown him what they were capable of. "Please don't be angry, he lost us just like we lost him."
But even though the words left his mouth, he couldn't quite believe them. His own anger, although buried beneath all of his niceties, was still there. And he was still hurt that Will was there and hadn't tried to fix their relationship.
But I think I’ve found the light.

There's nothing subtle here
Your touch like a happy pill
Cassidy felt her anger dissipate exponentially, like someone turned down the volume on a speaker. She frowned slightly but otherwise glad. She noted Miles' discomfort and was confused for a second before she realised that he didn't know how she felt about Will in the first place. Not really.
Once Miles' hand was on hers, she looked up and smiled comfortingly, turning her palm upwards to grab his, squeezing it lightly. His words were English, she knew that, but it seemed foreign coming from him. Somehow, the words seem more like it was on autopilot for him than anything.
"He's not acting like he lost y'all." She grumbled. "If I lost you, I'd go nuts." She added before squeezing Miles' hand once more before letting it go, leaning back on the couch she was in and sighing. "I know you're his brother and you probably feel like you should be protecting him or whatever but I can see things without that bias and I think it's a crummy thing to do to family." She ran her fingers through her hair and shook her head.
"Whatever. I'm sorry I didn't mean for this session to be sucky." She gave a forced chuckle. "Miles, it's his loss for not reaching out. It really is. Don't worry about it. You're better off without him around. And you've still got your sister. And me. You're going to be fine."

When They Call My Name
These thoughts will kill me
He wasn't acting like he'd lost his family at all. Miles couldn't disagree with her and he wasn't going to. Of course he felt like he had to protect his brother, that was all he felt like he was good for. It was what he had been doing for Lottie all their lives and what he would continue doing for as long as he was around. He didn't know if it was the right thing to do in this case, especially with the way that Cassidy felt about him and what he was doing to her, but it was a knee-jerk reaction.
"I just, I can't help it, Cas. He's the older brother I've always wanted, I was six when he left. And I remember him, ya know? I remember what he was like and whatever he's doing now...that's not him." Miles may not have been able to remember everything from that age, but he remembered the way that Will had doted on the twins. Lottie had clung to Will as a child and without him, Miles wondered if that was why she'd learned to push everyone away. He could remember Will reading to them every night, even if Miles wasn't as fascinated by words as Lottie was. "He wasn't always like this."
Miles gave Cas a small smile and shrugged, "I know. Honestly, I'm more worried about what he doesn't have though..." It was typical Miles to care more about someone else's predicament than his own. He supposed it was a blessing and a curse because he couldn't find it in him to be entirely upset with Will for what he was doing. It hurt, of course, but he knew his brother. He knew that something had changed him and that he wouldn't have been this way if things hadn't happened the way that they did. "He's family, even if he doesn't want to be."
But I think I’ve found the light.

The way Miles spoke about his brother made her think of hers. She probably wouldn't have as many nice things to say about Dylan if anyone asked. She didn't remember much about spending time with her older brother growing up. But that was her parents fault, mostly. Of course, she wasn't blaming either of them for the lack of sibling bonding because she benefitted so much from all the lessons she used to have to go through. And it wasn't like she had to beg for attention.
If the price to pay for having the life she did now was a little distance between her and her brother, she was willing to pay it. But she wasn't Miles. Miles seemed to love Will so much. He had a bond with his brother that seemed unbroken in Miles' eyes. She wished she could relate; there was something about Miles that made her feel so naturally protective over him.
She sighed before getting up and going over to Miles to hug him tight. "He'll see that." Cassidy said after a long pause. "You'll get your brother back."

When They Call My Name
These thoughts will kill me
Miles didn't have a hope in the world that made him believe that he'd succeed in getting his brother back. Will was a stubborn man, he didn't have to know him now to know that. Stubbornness ran in the family, so while he might not have had any hope, he still was going to try his damnedest to get Will to at the very least talk to them. Even if it was just for closure, the twins needed to know what it was about them that made him never come back.
Cassidy came over and hugged him and he knew that he needed to do something for her too. It wasn't right for his brother to treat her in whatever way that it was that hurt her. He didn't know Will and he didn't know their relationship, but he knew that Cas deserved more than to be dragged around by someone. And if anyone was going to make sure that his brother didn't hurt Cassidy again, it was going to be him. One way or another.
Miles hugged her back and nodded, "We're a stubborn family, I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be easy."
But I think I’ve found the light.

Miles' words struck her and she couldn't help but smile, remembering her dad's motto for her. "Nothing good ever is." She responded before planting a kiss on top of his drying head. "Wow you're still wet." She laughed, ruffling his hair before returning to her seat.
"Miles, I'm gonna be straight with you." She took a deep breath and looked Miles straight in the eye. "I haven't had a connection with anyone here since I got in. Not enough to actually form a friendship, until you came along." She forced a smile on her face despite her trepidations on how this was going to be received by the younger Spencer. "I hope I'm not being too forward but you've been a really good friend to me and I'd do whatever it takes to help you out in any way." She nodded, determination clear on her face.

When They Call My Name
These thoughts will kill me
She returned to his seat and he looked up at her when she got serious. Her intensity wasn't something he had expected. And her words even less so. His eyebrows pulled together and he suddenly felt very shy because she was talking to him the way that an older sibling should. The way that Will should. She was offering him help, something that he couldn't say he'd accepted from anyone, not even his own blood. He was the helper, he didn't often ask for help.
But in this case, he knew he needed something from her.
Miles looked down and rubbed the back of his neck, "I don't want to put you in a bad spot." Because if Will was anything like he'd come up with in his head, the negative side anyway, it wouldn't go over well. There was only one way he was going to get to his brother, and that was through someone who would know where to find him. "Is there any kind of way...I mean, if you'd be willing...to like...I dunno, just point me in the right direction of Will?" There was no easy way of going about it. Facing it head on was probably the only way he would get somewhere. The direct approach always worked better with Lottie, perhaps that was the way he'd have to approach his older brother.
But I think I’ve found the light.

The silence ate at Cassidy and she immediately went into overthinking mode. She could see different scenarios where Miles laughed at her, where he walked away thinking she was a freak, or just him staring at her in disbelief. None were desirable, obviously, but she wouldn't really blame him if he did.
Thankfully, all he wanted was for her to show him where he was. That, she would be more than happy to do. At this point, she didn't quite care that Will would hate her for doing something so presumptuous. He deserved whatever discomfort he felt for making Miles feel abandoned. Miles deserved so much more than how Will was treating him.
So she took out a piece of paper and a pen and wrote down Will's apartment address. She handed the paper over to Miles and gave him a genuine smile. "I really hope you get some closure with him."
