Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
Charlotte snorted out a laugh and covered her mouth, "Australian accents are so different from English accents! I think us Brits are the only ones who can tell though, I swear." She shook her head and laughed again. "But you've got to have a good one. The easiest one has to be from southern London. It's the most pretentious sounding accent in England." She knew that she could get away with saying it because she came from that part of London with all of the socialites. She could just be thankful she hadn't had a coming out party.
Her eyes remained downcast as he looked at her, but when he offered to take her back home for Christmas, they snapped up. "You know it isn't funny to make jokes like that," It was the only thing that made sense. He couldn't actually be considering taking her to England when they had barely gotten to know each other. Charlotte chewed on her lower lip and narrowed her eyes at him, "You are kidding, yeah? I mean, you wouldn't actually consider taking me with you." What about his boyfriend that was somewhere in this house doing God knows what? She most definitely wasn't willing to be a third wheel on that plane ride. If she was going with him, she hoped that she was just going with him.
And then she thought about Miles, she couldn't leave him behind....

"Probably." He laughed. "We're probably the only ones who get insulted when someone says we sound Ozzie." He continued with a shake of his head. When she mentioned what could have been her own accent, Max laughed. "Easily. I couldn't do it even if my life depended on it." He responded, his accent thicker by the syllable.
A frown creased his brows and he turned a little to fully look at her. "Why would I be joking?" He asked, not fully aware of the implications of his invitation in his drunken haze. "You still have family there don't you? You mentioned an uncle." He was trying to backtrack where the conversation went wrong because Charlotte looked upset.
"You can say no if you don't want to. I just thought it'd be fun to go home together. I'm sure Miles would love it."

"Alright, alright. I'll let you off just this once. But I'll have you know, I'm very disappointed," Charlotte fluttered her lashes and jutted her lip out in a pout. She giggled after a beat and smiled, "I'm totally kidding, I love your accent the way it is."
She was drunk, perhaps a bit sensitive, but she couldn't believe that he'd want to ruin his vacation by asking her to tag along. The more he spoke, the more confused she got. He seemed genuinely interested in his idea. And he'd even included Miles. Her heart clenched and she smiled a tiny bit. "You're actually serious?" They were both blitzed, obviously, so she took it with a grain of salt, but the idea was nice. The sentiment was sweet and she wanted so badly to go back.
"I mean, yeah, we've got my uncle James. And Miles would love it, but, I just don't want you to feel like you have to since I brought it up."

He scrunched his nose up and reached a hand out to ruffle her hair before continuing his massaging. "You're adorable, Char." He nodded.
Her confusion fed into his and he honestly wondered what the big deal was. They would be heading to the same place, why not just go together?
"Well yeah, going home is no joke, Char." He gave her his most serious face before he frowned at her words. "Why would I feel that? We're going the same way, might as well go together. No?" He asked before noticing Spencer and Drew coming down the stairs. "Hey! Babe! Come over." Drew saw Max and nodded before they both walked over. Spencer sat on Charlotte's lap as Drew pressed a kiss on Max's lips. "Where've you been?" He asked Drew who looked at Spencer before shrugging. "Smoking with that one. She's got some...really good stuff." Drew chuckled. "Hey Lottie, right?" He asked as he wrapped his arm around Max from behind the couch.

I couldn't look you in the eye
Charlotte opened her mouth to answer, just as her best friend and Max's boyfriend appeared. Immediately her happy high deflated and she pulled her legs back just as Spencer sat on her lap. Her eyes lifted up to Spencer before they moved to Drew who asked her name. Her jaw set, "Charlotte, actually." Because Lottie was reserved for very few people. She wrapped her arms around her best friend's waist and gave a tiny and brief squeeze.
"I should go find Miles," Her voice was small and quiet, probably not easily heard over the music. And from the moment the other two joined, she made no effort to look at Max. Her moment was over, her hope buried again. And her emotions, she could feel them beginning to quake inside of her. Her grip tightened around Spencer as some kind of signal that she was about to blow a gasket if she didn't find her brother quickly.
"Keep 'em company while I look?"

Spencer grinned and squeezed Charlotte back before she realised that the girl was trying to signal to her. She nodded and got off Charlotte's lap to sit on the couch. Drew and Max were making out and Spencer rolled her eyes.
"You wanna try some, Golden Boy?" Spencer poked Max's stomach, which caused him to push Drew off the couch arm. "Shit! You okay, Drew?" He asked, laughing as he tried to get up off couch but he became lightheaded.
Spencer laughed as she languidly stretched her leg. Drew got up and huffed a little. "I'm going to go get some food." He said, giving Max another kiss on the lips, looking at Spencer who once again rolled her eyes.
Max turned to Spencer and frowned. "Where'd Char go?" He asked and Spencer sighed. "She went to look for Miles. Drew killed her buzz." She said with a shrug. Max's frown deepened and he turned to look for Charlotte. "What? Why?" He asked. Spencer propped her leg up on Max's lap. "What were you two talking about? Seemed super cosy." She wriggled her eyebrows at Max who chuckled. "Found out that we lived in the same continent before. I should go find her." Max gently pushed Spencer's leg off him and stood up, shaking his head a little.
He walked over to where the bottled waters were and grabbed one to hydrate himself before walking around in search of Charlotte.

Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
She was up and off the couch quickly, staggering slightly when she moved to find Miles. She knew he wouldn't be far, probably watching to make sure that nothing happened, but she didn't see him in the closest vicinity. She tripped over her own feet and ended up on the steps, sitting with her head in her hands.
She was too unstable to find Miles. It was more likely that she'd make an idiot out of herself in front of everyone if she tried. Her body began shaking and she could feel the panic stirring in her stomach. It was always worse when she drank, Miles was always telling her that, but she liked the numbness for a little while. Charlotte took a deep breath and rocked back and forth a bit. She'd tried countless times before to ride out the attacks, but she never could. She just needed her medication or Miles or something to pull her back.
Of course Drew would come find Max. They were dating. She hadn't forgotten, even as they sat on the couch. But she thought that maybe he had, just for a moment. Maybe she had made the whole thing up, lingering, side-eyes. She'd imagined the whole thing. Her chest tightened and it felt like the walls were closing in on her.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

He didn't have to look long before finding Charlotte on the stairs looking like she could burst at any moment. "Oh my God, Char. What happened?" He rushed to the staircase and sat beside Charlotte, his arm wrapping around her shoulder and squeezing lightly.
"Hey Wade! Find Miles Spencer. Tell him his sister's at the staircase." He ordered a freshman who was on Miles' lacrosse team who nodded and went in search of Charlotte's twin.
He was quickly sobering up and wondering what happened to Charlotte. Had she drank too much? "Char? Do you need water?" He asked, panicking slightly.

Charlotte could barely acknowledge that Max was the one who found her first. She felt an arm around her shoulders, but she kept her head in her hands, trying desperately to get a grip on her breathing. Her chest was tight and she could feel herself hyperventilating. She heard her twin's name and nodded because that was exactly what she needed. She needed Miles.
Her hand gripped his arm and she shook her head, "No...I...I can't..." She couldn't breathe. She couldn't talk. She couldn't force the words out of her mouth. "Miles. I...I need Miles."
Just moments later, she could hear her twin's voice saying her name and she looked up into her twin's eyes as he knelt down in front of her, "Lottie, I'm here." His eyes glanced up at Max and he frowned, "What happened?" He pulled her hands away from her face and gripped them in his own, "Breathe Lot. It's okay, I'm here, just breathe with me, yeah? Like how we practiced." Miles felt very aware of everyone that had gathered around them and he was both embarrassed and irritated that they were all just staring. He breathed in slowly, and let it out, waiting for her to follow suit.
"How much did she drink?"

Max held her hand as she stuttered her way through conversation. He nodded and reassured her that Miles was coming. When he did, Max stepped away from her and shook his head when asked what happened. "I don't know mate. We were doing fine and then she said she was gonna look for you and..." Max gestured to where she was.
Spencer had joined them and asked him what happened and he shrugged before realising everyone had stopped what they were doing to watch what was happening.
"Will you lot fuck off?" Max yelled and everyone scrambled back into action, some even going so far as to leave the house. He ran his fingers through his hair and turned back to Miles.
"I don't even know. I'm sorry mate, I really don't know." Max tried to breathe. "Is she going to be okay?" He asked and Spencer just patted his arm and shook her head. "Let's just let them deal with this." She gripped her arm and started to pull Max away.

I couldn't look you in the eye
Charlotte could feel Miles' frustration and she knew it was aimed around the room, but the moment he turned it towards Max, she gripped his hand back and she did her best to dismiss the feeling. It wasn't Max's fault that she'd lost it. It was her own and she knew that her twin was aware of that as well. He'd told her not to put so much on the events of tonight, to keep it in mind that the most they would be is friends. And he'd also told her that she should have taken her medication after all that had happened.
Miles sighed and brushed her hair back, shaking his head, "No, it's fine. I'm just glad you found her before it got worse." He looked up at Max, grateful that he'd gotten the crowd to back off. The close proximity wasn't giving Charlotte the air she needed. "Spence, you mind getting a glass of water and maybe a warm, wet rag?" His eyes focused back on his twin's and he frowned, she knew exactly what he was thinking.
He wanted to leave.
Charlotte gripped his hand tighter and she focused on his breathing, her own beginning to match his. She couldn't stop shaking and the twist in her stomach wasn't helping. Anxiety mixed with alcohol had definitely been a bad move on her part, but she didn't want to leave. And she didn't want Max to go either. Frantically she reached out to grab Max's hand before Spencer could pull him away, but she said nothing.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

Murder on The Dancefloor

Spencer watched as Miles handled the situation, something about him taking charge made her look at him in a completely different light. She blinked when he ordered her to get the water and a rag. She was about to pull Max away but she saw how tight Charlotte was holding on to him so she let him go.
As she went to get what Miles asked her to get, Max dropped down beside Charlotte, squeezing her hand to let her know he wasn't going anywhere. "Miles...is she having an anxiety attack?" Max asked hesitantly after a long pause.
Spencer came back just in time to hear the question and she looked over to Miles with a short shake of her head before handing him the glass of water and the rag. "Max, don't ask questions you already know the answer to." She rolled her eyes and stood a bit apart from the three, crossing her arms.
Max looked at Spencer with a frown before turning to Charlotte, his worry heightening.

I couldn't look you in the eye
Holding onto both Miles and Max had the affect she hoped for. She focused on their breathing and could feel their worry. But through all of that, she felt guilt starting to overcome her. She'd ruined the whole night when she could have done something to keep herself from having this kind of meltdown. She chewed on her lower lip and continued breathing slowly.
When Spencer came back, Miles took the rag from her and moved Charlotte's hair out of the way, pressing it to her forehead. Charlotte released his hand to take the glass of water from her best friend, her hand still shaking. When Spencer snapped at Max, Charlotte went to say something, but Miles beat her to it, his eyes on his twin, "Easy Spence." Her shoulders eased slightly and she let out a long breath.
Charlotte's eyes lifted to Miles' and he nodded, "I'm gonna go get the car." He looked at Spencer and hoped to convey something that told her to give them a second. He felt the pressing weight of his twin's guilt and he knew that if she didn't get a second to apologize, she was going to hold onto it for much longer than was necessary.

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
Holding up her hands in defense when Miles issued a warning, Spencer leaned against the pillar adjacent to the stairs to watch the proceedings. She liked Max just fine but sometimes there were just things you don't say around people dealing with things like Charlotte was. She crossed her arms over her chest and waited for further instructions.
Max couldn't help but notice the silent connection between Charlotte and Miles and he wondered briefly whether twin telepathy was an actual thing. He kept quiet, deterred by Spencer's mild tongue-lashing to ask stupid questions anymore.
Once again, an unspoken connection passed but this time between Miles and Spencer. Max felt very much out of the loop but kept quiet as Spencer nodded and moved away from the pillar to say her goodbyes. Max concentrated on Charlotte who was starting to feel, more than look, better.
With Miles leaving, they were left alone, even the guests seemed to have steered clear of the hall they were in. The Brit squeezed Charlotte's hand and moved a step down so he could look at the dark-haired young woman. "Char...I'm really sorry for asking but what happened?"

Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
As her brother and Spencer walked away, Charlotte focused on being able to actually find her voice. She'd maintained a steady breathing pattern and the trembling in her fingers was hardly noticeable. She couldn't say she felt better because honestly she didn't. She'd ruined everyone's time over something silly. Now all she could do was apologize and hope to disappear for a few days.
Max moved down a step and she breathed in slowly, her stomach still clenching uncomfortably as she waited for him to say something. She wondered if he was going to be mad, if he hated her for ruining his party. Her eyes remained cast down until he finally spoke. His tone caught her off guard and she looked up hesitantly. Charlotte kept her grip on his hand, afraid that if she released it she'd lose her grip again or that he would leave without anything else. Another breath in and she figured she would be able to talk without her voice breaking by now.
"I...I have this anxiety disorder. It's kind of severe, it comes on all at once with no real warning signs. It's like a build up of everything that's going wrong and then finally something small makes it explode," She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and frowned. How was she supposed to cover up the fact that her undoing had been because she'd watched Max with his boyfriend while she was fawning over him. No, she'd have to lie. "I think talking about home kind of triggered everything. There's been a lot going on..." Like her long lost asshole of a brother coming back, Miles breaking his hand, their parents hardly speaking to her.
Charlotte looked up again and shook her head, "I'm so sorry...I ruined everything."
