Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
At least she saw his effort and tried to correct herself, even though she didn't have to. Max wasn't expecting her to suddenly trust him and replace her lifelong security blanket with him. He just wanted to calm her. The overprotective feeling he had over her was unusual.
That being said, he allowed himself to be led away by her to the banquet table. She was attempting normality and he was going to make sure she knew he wasn't going away. He made that mistake once already in the week, he wasn't going to do it again.
Max laughed and nodded, even though he knew nothing of these sorts of occasions. He was still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that he was in Heath Hall on personal invitation.
His eyes followed where she had gestured and nodded. "Could you get me some bubbly? Surprise me." He leaned close to press his lips against her jaw, close to her neck. He didn't try to press her on not eating, figuring it wasn't his place. She was still nervous about not having Miles around.
Once they parted, Max went crazy at the buffet table. He brought back two full plates of food and placed it on the table, grinning at Charlotte. "It's cold. I need insulation." He joked.

His lips caused her to shiver and she smiled when he pulled away, "You got it, babe." She pulled him down to her lips before they both went in separate directions. Once she reached the bar, she was given two glasses of champagne and she scrunched her nose before thanking the bartender who just laughed at her as she walked away.
When she reached the table, she sat down and tapped her fingers against her glass. Her eyes lifted when he set two plates down and she laughed, her hand covering her mouth, "No judgment here, my grandmother goes all out with food at these things. It's pretty much the main event." She glanced at the glasses and frowned, "Unfortunately all I could score was champagne because I think the bartender questioned my motives."

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
Charlotte seemed to be the only one with no judgment, it seemed because everyone else around them were looking at him weirdly. If only Max were the type to care...
He took the glass offered to him and chuckled. "It's fine. Maybe afterwards, we can steal some bottles to your uh...big bed." He teased as he started to eat.
"So your nan does this every year?" Max gestured to the ballroom with his fork.

"Yes please!" Charlotte exclaimed. There was nothing better than good booze and a comfortable bed. She was pretty certain that was how she wanted to die. Plus, it helped that he was going to be there in the bed with her getting just as drunk and hopefully handsy. She snorted at her own thoughts and bit her lip.
When he asked about the party she smiled, "Yep, every year since I can remember. I think she did it even before Will was born." Not that she cared about anything that had to do with her older brother. She couldn't even believe she brought him up.
Charlotte stared at the glass of champagne and sighed.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

Max laughed as he slid a hand over her thigh and squeezed it lightly. He was definitely going to be handsy later, that was a guarantee. When he saw her bite her lip, a smile crept on his. There was no way she wasn't thinking exactly what he was.
As he ate, he listened to her talk. The mention of her eldest brother also brought on an air around her that he couldn't quite read. Her sigh made him pause from his eating to grab her hand.
"You okay, babe?" He asked. He didn't want to pry and he won't if she refused.

Her face immediately caught flame when he squeezed her thigh. Yep, she was in for quite a night at this rate. She just couldn't seem to figure out how she managed to not immediately take him back to her room. It was like self-punishment. Well, that, and he seemed to want to wait a bit, too. Not that it made any sense.
With her mind distracted by both of her brothers, she could hardly focus on anything else. He gripped her hand and she looked up at him, trying for a tight-lipped smile, but it fell flat. "I'm just thinking, you know. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be this distracted." She squeezed his fingers and leaned forward to kiss his cheek.
Charlotte stood up, "I'll be back, okay? I just want to see if Miles is in his room. I'll feel better once I know and then we can dance and get crazy, yeah?" She looked at him with pleading eyes. It was honestly the only way she'd stop worrying.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

He simply smiled when he saw the colour on her cheeks. Max wasn't a patient guy, if anything, this week taught him that. The fact that he was able to pull away from Charlotte at all was a damn miracle.
When she kissed his cheek, Max held her there briefly with a hand up to her cheek. He scratched her hair affectionately and nodded when she stood. He stood up as well out of habit and gave her a quick kiss on her forehead. "It's fine, I'll just go round two while I wait." He grinned and let her walk.

Charlotte tugged him back down to her lips for a quick kiss before she was content with walking away. She'd just told him that they'd stick together, but she couldn't very well drag him along on her search for her brother. It was hardly fair for him to follow her around like a puppy and she wasn't going to treat him like one.
And after what she found, she could honestly say that she was glad that she hadn't taken him along. All of the mess of emotions in such a short amount of time, she didn't want him to be constantly subjected to that from her. She parted ways with her brother and her best friend, leaving them to either finish getting themselves situated or leaving them for round two, she wasn't quite sure. She just knew she needed to get rid of the evidence that she'd been crying like a baby in the arms of her best friend. Her fingers were still wiping when she came back to the ballroom and she was certain that her makeup was no longer as great as it had been before.
Charlotte found him in the same spot and she smiled to herself, watching him while he wasn't watching her. He looked so out of place among the rest of the crowd and she took comfort in that, feeling the way that he looked. She slid her arms around his neck from behind and pressed her lips to his cheek, "I'm back. I'm sorry it took a little longer than I promised."
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

As promised, he did go for round two. He was feeling a little bit vulnerable in her absence, which was why he kept shoving food down his throat.
He was polishing off dessert when he started feeling awkward. If he went for round three and Charlotte was still gone, he'd burst out of his jacket. Thankfully, she came back finally and he almost pulled her in a chokehold before standing up and smiling too widely at her.
Way to be subtle, Maxwell.
"It's fine. I was entertaining myself." He pointed to the almost finished plate of dessert. "Is Miles alright?" He asked.

Charlotte giggled when he pulled her close and she gave him a squeeze before looking at the plate. She snickered and placed a hand on his chest, "A man after my own heart. You're cute." She stretched up and kissed his cheek before sitting down at the table.
She put her hand to her forehead and laughed, "Uh, yeah. I'd say he's doing peachy." The look on her brother's face when she left the room, she couldn't help but laugh again. He had just lost his virginity to the only girl he'd ever liked in his whole life. Meanwhile, she was sitting across from her biggest crush she'd had. London surely worked miracles.
Char took his hand and pressed it to her lips, "Thanks for being patient with me all the time. You're pretty much the best."

Max looked down at her hand on his chest and smiled before looking back up at her face, just in time to accept the peck on the cheek. He sat down after her and frowned ever so slightly at her reaction to his question before nodding with a smile.
"And he was with Spencer?" He asked, sort of putting two and two together.
He watched as she took his hand and kissed it and he pulled hers to his lips. "You're well worth it, Char." He said leaning towards her to place a kiss just under her ear. "Can't wait for the party to end though." He whispered with a smirk before straightening in his seat, a polite smile on his face.

She pressed her lips together and nodded in response to his question, "Mmhm, yup, him and Spencer were...together." Her eyes lifted and she couldn't help but laugh. It was a little awkward to say the least, but she was glad that they had each other and she knew she didn't have to worry anymore. Her attention could be centered on the person she was with, finally.
Her lips curled into a smile and she groaned, "God I can't either. Longest few hours of my life. But at least we've managed to avoid most of my family and their unrelenting questions." She stroked his cheek absently and tilted her head to the side.
Although, she couldn't help but be curious at the fact that none of them had immediately flocked to her when she came out. She supposed it had to do with them being occupied with their dates, not that she was complaining. Charlotte scooted closer to Max and wrapped her arms around his, resting her cheek on his shoulder, "Wake me when it's over," She glanced up and grinned.

The way Charlotte phrased her words made him turn with narrowed eyes, before realisation hit him. "They were together together? I guess we didn't need the mistletoe like we thought." He chuckled, impressed that Miles did it without any assistance.
Max enjoyed the little things Charlotte physically did, knowing she was unaware of half of the things she did. "Yes, the thought of facing the Spencer inquisition had my stomach in knots." He chuckled.
He accomodated her arms around his and leaned into her as well. He looked down and smiled, pressing his lips against her forehead. "If I don't fall asleep too." He chuckled.

Her laughing continued and she covered her face with her hand, "Not even a little. She was wearing his dress shirt, lookin' all cute and sexed up. And Miles...he looked mortified. But then...so was I." She groaned and shook her head. At least they'd both have things to tell their kids and nieces and nephews when they were old enough.
Charlotte smiled, "I don't doubt that for a moment. My family is excellent at inquisition, let me tell you. We've got a writer, a doctor and a fashion icon. Bet you couldn't guess which is the most terrifying of the three." To be honest, she could have cared less about the doctor's opinion, but she valued her uncle and her grandmother's. She wanted Eva to adore him and she wanted James to bond with him. Will, well, Will was just a side bar to the family.
In all fairness, she was exhausted enough that she probably could have fallen asleep like that with her arms around his. She just couldn't wait until they were alone again. Charlotte squeezed his arm and closed her eyes, "Someone needs to up the energy level in here. It's killing me."

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
The image Charlotte described made him immediately think how cute and sexed up Charlotte could possibly be in a few more hours. He was definitely going to have a hard time taking his hands off her tonight.
He laughed when Charlotte mentioned how mortified she was. "Aww, you poor baby." Max pulled her into him, squeezing her lightly.
"Oh great." He chuckled when her family was brought up. "I'm gonna go with the fashion icon. I have seen what goes behind a fashion show, I would not like to live it." He shook his head and noped repeatedly with a laugh.
Max looked around and sighed. The crowd did not look like they would take kindly to him suddenly yelling for everyone to do the macarena. "I mean we could just go to the bar? Don't worry, I'll make sure you remember what we do tonight."
