Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
Her face scrunched and she groaned, "Not adorable. That's embarrassing. That is so embarrassing." She could have died right then, only imagining what other ridiculous things she'd said to him while she was intoxicated. At least she remembered the kissing. She'd hate herself if she'd been too drunk to remember that.
"No...I mean. You're not wrong. But, I dunno, I just...I didn't think you'd ever..." She shook her head again and looked down. It still didn't make any sense that he had wanted to kiss her for as long as he was implying. The party, her panic attack over him and Drew, she supposed he didn't really know it was about that, but she'd expected him to think she was broken and unfixable. Nobody wanted to date someone with as much baggage as she had, and she was pretty sure he'd find that out sooner or later.
Her eyebrows pulled together when he spoke. Max was asking her to continue whatever this was in the States. He was serious, she could see it written all over his face, she didn't need Miles to read that. She sucked in her lower lip, trying to keep from smiling too wide. Charlotte was worried, of course, but this was exactly what she'd wanted for years. She couldn't even remember when it had all started. She nodded. "I don't think that would be the worst thing in the world," She flashed a smirk and laughed.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
Max gave her a sympathetic smile before pulling her back into a hug, kissing the top of her head. He let her go only to watch her as she went through her words. He had always seen Charlotte as this confident young woman. To see her this uncertain was a little unnerving but refreshing. And highly endearing.
He had to wonder how long she'd liked him that she was this nervous to start something with him. He also had to wonder what she thought of him being so blase about getting out of a relationship and then jumping into another one. Because to him, he knew what he wanted and he had to admit to himself even while he was with Drew, he'd thought of Charlotte quite a lot.
That was part of the reason why it was so easy for him to break it off with Drew outside of his infidelity. Time apart from Charlotte also allowed him to put things into perspective. What he had with Drew had been fun. When they broke up, all Max could think of was the band. If he had had any proper feelings for Drew, he would have been upset about being cheated on but he wasn't. He just thought how weird it would be for the band.
With Charlotte, he spent one whole week thinking he blew it with her because he kissed her and she didn't call him back. That had to mean something, didn't it?
Hearing Charlotte's agreement, Max let loose a breath he didn't realise he had been holding and laughed at her smirk. "Good." He nodded before pulling her close and pressing his lips against hers, softly at first.

Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
Charlotte giggled against his lips and pulled back, "You know there's a perfectly good party that we're missing." Although, she wasn't missing too much, she didn't feel. Of course she'd been curious to see what her best friend and brother would look like together. If they made the perfect couple like she'd expected them to. She was even curious about how Will and Cassidy looked together, whether Will would actually have a smile on his face or if he was just going to be a sourpuss the whole time.
Her fingers laced together around his neck and she looked up at him, "I can't believe that I'm in London with Max Parker," She laughed and shook her head. It was still so outrageous to her. Several months ago she'd been on the phone with Spencer going on about his lingering and his looks, but she'd always felt as though she was reading too much into it. And now she was in her favorite room of the hall, with the guy she'd been drooling over for years.
Charlotte stretched up and kissed him again, this time uncertain that she'd be the one to pull away this time.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

But you better not kill the groove
Laughing at what she pointed out, Max raised an eyebrow and looked at her in amusement. "Yes...because the party was the reason why I came." He responded with a light smirk. He let his fingers trace up and down her back as his smirk melted into a smile.
Her comment made him chuckle. "What do you mean?" He asked.
When she kissed him, he instinctively pulled her closer, deepening the kiss. He knew he should take it slow but Charlotte was intoxicating. He didn't think he could stop even if he wanted to.

"Well I can't quite be sure still," She shrugged. Of course, she was joking, she knew now that he had come for her. And the thought made her giddy as hell. Charlotte was still waiting for the shock of it all to hit her and render her completely useless and immobile. Her eyes felt heavy with the way his fingers ran along her spine, but she couldn't tell if she was tired or if she was just in a trance because of how comfortable she was.
"I dunno, I mean, it's you. I never in a million years would have thought you'd give me the time of day. I talk a big game, sure, but I honestly didn't think you noticed me," Because it was always easier for people to notice Spencer or her with Spencer. They were like a dynamic pair, but she felt less noticeable when she was on her own. She was still waiting for the other shoe to drop because this just seemed too good to be true.
Especially the fact that he was kissing her and she couldn't find anything inside that was telling her to stop. It was dangerous how much she liked him and she could feel the undertones of being positively terrified of it all being a sham. Charlotte was the one to pull away first and she could feel her chest rising and falling quickly, she'd forgotten to breathe. "You're gonna be the end of me," She laughed breathlessly and looked up at him.
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

But you better not kill the groove
"Cheeky." Max smirked, running his fingers lightly on her cheek, loving how soft her skin was.
As she answered his question, Max couldn't help but laugh. "I don't think anybody can miss you. You're quite the force to be reckoned with. Especially when you're with Spencer." Max shook his head as he ran his fingers through her hair and down her shoulder.
When she broke away again, her words echoed his thoughts and he smiled. "I could say the same thing about you, love." He responded before pulling her against him. He wanted to kiss her again but he wasn't quite ready to show her just how much he wanted her. Maybe another day.
"I don't think I should be alone with you any longer tonight. I'm..." a bark of laughter escaped him and he swallowed inaudibly. "Let's join the party. See if Miles and Spencer need a helping hand."

I couldn't look you in the eye
"Mostly when I'm with Spencer," She said quietly. Charlotte closed her eyes when he trailed his fingers across her skin. His presence was intoxicating and she couldn't focus on much else other than his proximity. It only got worse when they kissed. Her head spun and she temporarily forgot where they were and what was going on just down the hall.
Her eyes lifted to his and she smiled before burying her face in his shoulder. She considered pinching herself, just to make sure that this was real. Or maybe she should have pinched him to make sure he was real. It was too good to be true, having him at the party, him liking her back, it was nothing that she'd expected. "I would have to agree," Charlotte giggled and sighed, "Although I'm incredibly reluctant to move."
But the very idea of seeing Spencer and Miles rattled her and she pulled back quickly, sliding off of the piano bench, "I almost forgot. They were announced together, I have to see how it went. But hey, uh, don't...don't stray too far, yeah?"
You're so very special, but I'm a creep.

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
Max didn't like that Charlotte thought of herself that way. He wanted her to see herself the way he did. But he didn't know how to express it. So he just kissed her again. It was brief but it held whatever he was feeling. He didn't know whether she felt it or sensed it but it was the best he could do.
He smiled softly when she responded, her giggling endearing her to him even more. "I know how you feel." He admitted before grabbing her hand so she would stop moving too far away.
"Can't we stay together?" He asked.

Charlotte looked over her shoulder when he grabbed her hand and she felt her face warming up, "Of course, sorry. Yeah! Uh, we can make rounds and I should apologize now for the family members that we came out here to see." James, Eva and even Will were bound to embarrass her. She could only hope that they'd be more focused on Miles and Spencer than they were on her.
She laced her fingers through his and turned to stand in front of him. Charlotte leaned down and kissed him softly on his lips, her free hand running through his hair. "In fact, I think you should just stay here tonight. We can both get stupid drunk again and you won't have to drive home. There are plenty of rooms, or, I mean..." She bit her lower lip and laughed a little shyly, "My bed's pretty big, too." She did her best to shrug off the comment and act nonchalantly, but she was definitely not feeling nonchalantly.
Char stood back up to her full height and tugged at his hand, "Now before I do or say anything worse, let's gooo."

Laughing at the response he got, Max nodded and shrugged. "Apology accepted. Although I don't know how different they would be to my own family. Royal or not, families be crazy." He teased and looked down at her with a gentle smile when she moved in front of him.
He returned the kiss and sighed as he felt her fingers in his hair. There was just something so comforting having her do that. Her words jarred him awake and he looked at her. "It's not good to tease me, Char." He said, his tone moving down a scale and husky.
He had to smirk when she tugged at his hand. "Good Lord, I'm into a tease." He said to himself in a purely joking manner as he followed her out.
The party could not end sooner.

I couldn't look you in the eye
She scrunched her nose, "My family created crazy. You'll see." But she was okay with him seeing what her family was. At least then she'd know if he was actually into her or if it was just one of those things that always happened. She didn't linger on the downside for long though because in the moment, he was there and focused on her.
Max looking at her the way that he did could have made her knees buckle, but she kept a firm hold on him to make sure that didn't happen. His words made her smile and she nuzzled his cheek, "Is it really teasing though?" She gave him a quick peck and another innocent smile, although her thoughts were not quite as innocent as she was trying to act.
Pulling him along to the party, she kept her fingers laced through his. Now that he'd brought attention to it, she was adamant about not letting go. They came into the ballroom and she immediately found herself searching for her twin and his counterpart. "We need to find Miles and Spencer and some mistletoe. I've decided they need a little bit of a push," She looked up at him and smiled.

Max took her word for it and let it go. He did laugh at the idea of her family being the crazy type though. He'll see soon anyway. What he knew for sure was that Charlotte was driving him mad.
His thoughts weren't exactly innocent either as he followed her out of the room.
Max was on the lookout for her twin and best friend the moment they stepped into the ballroom. "I don't see them." He shrugged before he heard his stomach rumble. "Dinner is included in this, yeah?" He chuckled at Charlotte before he saw from the corner of his eyes, a pair walking through the hall they had just come from.
He couldn't make them out so he ignored it. "Where would Miles usually be at these balls?"

I couldn't look you in the eye
Her eyebrows pulled together and she frowned, she couldn't find them either. Charlotte was mildly panicked by that, but she did her best to bury it. He was with Spencer, if there was anyone she could trust her twin with, it was her best friend and the love of his life. Still, it was unsettling that this was the first party they weren't glued to each other.
"Yeah, of course, there's a ton of food," She was still distracted in her search when she answered. Hell, she didn't even see Will or her uncle either. The only familiar face among the see of people was her grandmother who was surrounded by guests so she couldn't ask her.
His question made her frown and she bit her lower lip, "I mean, usually we were together at these things. We were always paired up. I hope he's okay...." If he'd had a panic attack or blacked out from the overwhelming amount of people, Charlotte suddenly felt her stomach clench with worry.

Murder on The Dancefloor
But you better not kill the groove
Maybe it was the fact that he'd witnessed Charlotte's panic attack twice in their friendship that he could immediately see it coming. He just reveled in the fact that he wasn't the cause of it. He didn't even know whether the first one was about him though.
Then again, he did see the pattern in that she was more likely to go off when Miles wasn't around. If he didn't know both of them better, he would have noped the fuck out of there by then.
He slid his hand up and down Charlotte's back, trying to calm her down. "He's with Spencer, yeah? I'm sure he's fine." He tried to reassure her. "Give him a minute. Maybe we won't need the mistletoe." He attempted to joke.

Dressed Like an Angel
I couldn't look you in the eye
Charlotte was careful with her emotions. She maintained as level of a head as she could with her twin elsewhere. At least she had Max, as long as she focused on that, she could only hope that she'd be okay for the rest of the night without Miles or Spencer. She looked at her date and gave a small smile at his attempt, although she knew it was for her benefit. Unfortunately, she could also tell that he was catching on to just how frequent her worrying got the best of her.
With a deep breath, she took his hand again and led him towards the banquet table that was lined with different foods, "It would appear that Eva went for a buffet style this year, I think she finally caught on that having servers doesn't work well for these sorts of parties." Charlotte laughed a little, though she had no appetite herself. It all looked wonderful, it always did.
"I think we have a reserved table over there, want me to grab some drinks while you get your food and I'll meet you over there?" It was the only way she could think to get out of eating. She honestly couldn't even think about food, but she could think about alcohol.
