All The Boys
She came here to entertain you
His question was simple, but complicated. She didn't know if she should. It wasn't as though her mother would be there. She'd be gone. It was the only way that Adrian would ever know everything about her. It was all she'd wanted, to truly know her mother.
Adrian glanced up at him and shook her head, "She doesn't want them there, but why does it matter? The funeral isn't for her, it's for me. I'm the one that has to do it and..." She paused and frowned. "I don't know her the way I should, Dylan. Which means I don't even know myself the way I should."
Isn't she a dream come true?

He simply nodded as Adrian reasoned with him on why she needed her family there. He stroked the back of her head as he looked down at her. "Okay." He said after a while.
"Why don't I help?" He asked. He wouldn't push if she didn't want it but he was going to offer whatever help he can give. He can cast a wider net in her search, give her a peace of mind for that at least.
"What else do you need to do?"
He was trying not to be analytical about it but if it meant lessening her burden, he was going to help with that.

Adrian was relieved that he didn't push her for more reasons. She turned into him and pressed her lips to his shoulder before settling her head there. All she really wanted to do was breathe. She appreciated his offer to help and she took it as a way for her to do that. If he helped, the pressure would be taken off of her and she might be able to sleep.
"I'm just sifting through contact books and things I found. I want to find my grandparents at the very least." She glanced up at him and shrugged.
After a moment she looked back down and sighed, "I need a break though. From all of this." She peeked back up at him, "Will you come inside and just...I dunno, just pull me away from it for a little while. Tell me about what happened with Cas and how mad she is at me." With his arms around her so that he didn't stray too far. She needed the physical touch.

He looked down at her as she looked up at him and he smiled with a nod. "Okay. Easy enough. There has to be some records somewhere. We'll find them." He nodded.
Dylan's smile dropped when she looked away and he sighed softly. Her invitation to come in was met with a wince that doubled when she asked to tell her about Cassidy.
He hooked one hand under her arm and stood up, pulling her with him, before his hand circled her waist. "She's not even remotely angry with you, Adrian." He shook his head with a small smile.
He regaled her with the failure of an apology he had given to Cassidy as they moved into the house.

Adrian moved quietly into the house, frowning at the story he gave her. She'd expected her to be angry, but not with him. Adrian was the one who made the call. She knew that Cas wouldn't get it because she didn't understand the arrangement between her best friend and her brother.
Once they were inside, she pulled him around her scattered mess to the couch and curled up in his lap once he was sitting down. She didn't leave him much room to escape or decide that he didn't want her in his lap. She made the executive decision that this was how he was going to make it up to her right now. Her arms wrapped around him and she nuzzled into his neck and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry she got angry with you. I'll call her later and see if I can do some damage control," She mumbled against his neck.

Fact was, he didn't feel trapped. Dylan would go so far as to say that he felt at home having Adrian in his lap. It reminded him of the night she came to the library, the night he'd softened against her.
His hand lazily draped over her thigh while the other curled around her waist as he settled into the couch, looking at the mess surrounding them.
"Don't be. Trust me, I deserved it. You telling her anything now would just make it seem like I can't fight my own battles." He sighed, shivering against her breath against his neck. "But you're sweet to offer. Thank you." He rubbed his hand up and down her back, kissing the top of her head in gratitude.

She eased into him automatically when his arms went around her. It was more than a relief that he didn't try to push her away. If he had, she wasn't sure she could take it. Adrian focused the rhythm of her breath to match his and she closed her eyes for the first time in weeks, she felt. It was hard for her to feel comfortable when she was alone, especially after they'd left on such abrupt terms. She was just glad he came back.
Despite the fact that she knew he may have deserved the lashing he received from his sister, she didn't like it being on her behalf. Cassidy didn't know all of the things that he'd been doing for her these last few months, and though she knew that she couldn't tell his sister, her best friend, she wanted to just so that she could see that he wasn't as bad as she thought. Dylan had his moments of uncertainty, and Adrian could relate, but he had been trying so hard to do the right thing lately that she could appreciate his effort. She just wished that Cas could too.
Adrian's hand rested on the side of his neck and her thumb traced along his jaw, "I just want her to see you when you're like this. She would be happy knowing that you take better care of me than I take care of myself." Even if she hated to admit it. Adrian was independent, but when things got bad, she stopped caring about her own well-being.

He didn't know why he was reacting the way he was to her touches. He felt heated but at the same time soothed. Adrian was making him feel all kinds of things at once that he didn't know if he could withstand it.
He didn't know if he even wanted to.
Dylan had to laugh when Adrian spoke. "I would gag if I had to see Cas like this with her boyfriend. She'd more than likely run away." He joked, just to ease the tension he was feeling. He knew what Adrian meant but he wasn't sure if Cassidy would even approve of them.
"It's okay, babe. I'll handle that, don't worry." His hand curled around her cheek as he pulled her face up so he could gently press a kiss against her lips. "Just rest, okay? Don't think about anything else."

Adrian had to laugh at his words because she knew it was probably true. Nobody really wanted to see two people tangled up together all smitten. Which she was, as she looked up at him, she definitely knew she was. It didn't bother her as much as it used to, but she was still worried that it would backfire. There wasn't a single working relationship that she'd seen in her life and that was a large part of why she put off having one.
He lifted her face up and she melted into his kiss, brief as it was. Adrian tried not to linger on the fact that he'd called her 'babe' but she found it difficult. After the kiss, she buried her face back in his shoulder and breathed him in. She hated that she felt better while her mother was still suffering every day. It was a shred of comfort, but she was latched onto it as tight as she could be.
She sighed and mumbled against his shoulder, "I missed you."

It took him a while to respond to Adrian's sentiment. Who was he kidding, really? Of course he missed her as well. He'd demanded his dad to expand on his business so he could oversee the management of the California office until it's completion just so he could stay here. For her.
He didn't know why there was a hesitance to share the sentiment. He wasn't going to lose anything because he had laid his pride by Adrian's feet a long time ago. It was only now that he was willing to admit it.
So why was he gumming over his response?
He wrapped his arms tighter around her frame and sighed against her hair. It was honestly now or never, he thought to himself. Just...say it.
"I missed you too."

His hesitation was to be expected. She'd just openly admitted that she enjoyed his company enough that she didn't want him to leave again. She'd just told him that the feelings she had were more than just hook-up feelings. All with three little words, words that she only ever said to people like her mother and her best friend. It didn't bother her that he hesitated and it wouldn't have bothered her if he said nothing at all. As long as he didn't leave, she'd take what she could get.
His arms tightened around her and she smiled as she wrapped tighter around him as well. Her eyes closed again and she took a slow breath. It didn't matter that he didn't say it back, she was happy to just sit in his arms the way she was. But when he did, she felt relieved.
Adrian was glad that she didn't start to cry again, even if she was happy this time. She looked up at him and stretched up to kiss him. Her fingers traced his jaw and she eventually pulled back with a smile, "You didn't have to say it back, but I'm really glad you did." Because it was a step for both of them. She was okay with taking it first if he followed, but she had a feeling she was more open to the idea of being with someone than he'd ever been.

The kiss he gave back felt heavier than it used to. It held the weight of the feelings that had grown for the woman in his arms. When she pulled away, he took his time looking into her eyes, letting it sink in that his feelings for this woman had grown considerably.
She was right in thinking that he was less inclined to be in a relationship. He didn't know how to be in one. Being this open with Adrian was already ten steps further than most what he had. Yet, in that moment, he felt sure. Like nothing else made sense except this.
He mentally shook his head and sighed before kissing her again.

She came here to entertain you
Adrian's fingers slid into his hair and she pulled herself closer to him. It was so much easier to show feelings for him this way. While she talked a lot, and said almost nothing, she preferred kissing him to the words that she struggled with. She folded her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth and his cheek and his jaw before moving back to his lips. She was relieved to have someone that wanted her in a similar way that she wanted him.
After pulling back from his lips again, she rested her cheek against his shoulder and sighed softly. She was exhausted, but Adrian knew she'd feel bad if she fell asleep and left him to just sit there and watch her. Besides, she had to be aware of her mother waking up if she needed anything. Her sigh turned into a groan and she turned her face into his neck. "You're too comfortable and I can't sleep. I have to check on her and make sure she's okay. I have to finish all of this stuff."

"Adrian, go to sleep. Please?" Dylan sighed. "I'm here now. I'll check up on Amelia." He promised as he tightened his grip on her and stood. "Come on, princess. We're going to your bedroom okay? No protesting." He said as he turned towards where Amelia had gone the last time he was here.
"Let me know where to go."

He lifted her up and she knew that her protesting would get her nowhere. He was adamant on her sleeping, but she wasn't sure she'd be able to. The exhaustion she felt was heavy and pressing, but her mind always managed to keep her up. She frowned and pointed in the direction of her bedroom. There didn't seem to be much of a point in arguing, he was just going to do it anyway.
Adrian could feel the way her eyelids drooped and with her head against his chest, she could hear his heartbeat steady against her ear. If that wasn't what would make her crash, the warmth of his skin would. "You really don't have to do this, I...I don't want you to feel like you do," She was struggling to get the words out as she started hitting a wall. Her fingers traced patterns on his shirt as he carried her and she knew that the moment he set her down and curled up beside her, she'd be out.
