And what's the point of a memory
England was one of those places that no one could ever really forget. It was more than having family there, it was this feeling. Like running through sprinklers on a hot day, it was just refreshing. It gave a new perspective on things, like a different way of breathing. Being fifteen, William had traveled to England once every year, if not more. His whole family was there which left him wondering why his parents remained in America. His uncle and aunt were still in the area, which he supposed made sense given that his uncle and his mom were twins, but if it were up to him, he'd have uprooted their family ages ago and moved along with his aunt and cousin.
Liam supposed that it gave him some sort of excitement when he did eventually get to go to England. His parents had sent him on his own this go round, entrusting his older cousins to keep a close eye on him. Rose was responsible enough that Liam didn't think he'd have to worry about Jude getting them into too much trouble. Even if they happened to get into something, one of them would be able to get them out of it. Rose was smart and Jude was good with people, far better than Liam was. Although, he guessed it had something to do with feeling out of place. He didn't think he belonged in the States. He felt like he belonged in England where both of his parents were from and where the only family close to him in age lived.
After getting off the plane and having a car pick him up (the joys of being rich) he was dropped off at the Hall to see his favorite cousin first. The door was opened and his things were taken by some of the staff. He knew they'd be taking it to his usual room and he was left to find his cousin in the Hall. It didn't take much for him to locate her, given the fact that they were similar in their love of books. Liam was always told that it was just a 'Spencer thing' to love books and to understand them on some strange level that not everyone did. He supposed he wasn't surprised since their great uncle, Jude's dad, was a writer. He peeked in from the doorway, "Don't tell me, I wanna see if I can guess what book it is." He leaned against the frame and pondered his options. "The Palace of Art, Alfred Tennyson. Am I right?"

unforgettable in every way
and forever more that's how you'll stay
While waiting for her baby cousin, Liam, to arrive at the Hall, Rose had disappeared into the library, as she always did. Her dad's presence was always more corporeal here. Having him around the past few years have definitely helped with the grieving process. Even her mother had adjusted to it. So far, the three of them were the only ones who truly felt Will's presence while the rest of the family passed it off as a sudden gust of wind most of the time.
Having her cousins around was always fun and even though Liam was still far too young for Rose to bring out anywhere, it was still such a joy to have him around. Especially because among all of them, he looked the most like her dad and it was good to have a living reminder of him.
His voice permeated through her haze of reading and she turned with a bright smile. "The Princess, actually." She held the page up to him before closing the book and sliding it on the table in front of her. She got up and bounded over to her younger cousin and scooped him up off the floor. Or tried, anyway.
"Oh my God, you're heavy. When did you get heavy?" She asked when she released him. He had also grown to the same height as her and she gave him an affectionate pout. "When did you grow up?"

Liam was taken back as she rushed him and he went to warn her off of trying to lift him, but she tried anyway and he laughed, "You're crazy, put me down, ya dork." He kept his arms wrapped tight around her for a moment before they both released each other. The pout on her lips made him laugh again and he rolled his eyes, "Don't gimme that. I'm only as tall as you because I hit a spurt. I'm not sure how much taller I'm going to get since both of my parents are short."
Stepping back he gave her a once over and grinned, "I hate to tell ya, but you look exactly the same to me. I don't think you're gonna be growing anymore, eh?" Liam had never felt out of place around his cousin. More so, he never felt strange over her abilities either. He knew he resembled her father a lot more than anyone cared to admit. That she got to see them side by side sometimes was kind of incredible because she wasn't afraid to talk about him. He never really bothered to ask his mom because she could hardly get anything out, even after all these years.
"So how've things been, fill me in on the details of our crazy family, yeah?" Liam gestured for her to go ahead of him and take a seat before following her towards the large table where he sat on the edge. His mom always gave him a hard time about his lack of manners.

"But you're so handsome. Being short doesn't even matter. Look at your dad!" Rose chirped before giggling. She could hear her father snorting at the back and she blocked him out in order to concentrate on her cousin.
She flipped her long, thick hair over her shoulder and rolled her eyes at the quip. "It's easier for us girls to be small and petite. We can just get everyone else to do our bidding." She lifted one shoulder before turning back into the library, going back to where she had been sitting earlier.
The question about family had Rose smiling. "Mama is still looking for a building for her vet's clinic. Aunt Maya is helping her out with the business end of the deal. I visited Nana Eva's grave last week. I think she misses you so we'll do that when Jude gets here from school. Other than that, not much is happening." She looked at him and jutted her chin out. "What about your end then?"

And what's the point of a memory
Her comment about his dad made Liam's face twist and he shook his head, "Nope, that's weird. And most girls don't exactly like short guys, Ro. In case you haven't noticed." He was only fifteen, he wasn't completely concerned about girls yet, but it wasn't as though he didn't notice them. Liam wasn't opposed to the idea of a girlfriend. All he could do was roll his eyes at her gesture of flipping her hair and discussing how she could make people do her bidding. It was so like her, but he couldn't help but adore her.
Liam nodded, a frown set on his lips, "I don't know why she'd miss me, she knew you guys better." He wasn't very keen on grave sites. Funerals less so when the casket was open and death was staring back at him. He had a weak stomach for that sort of stuff. It was a little depressing that he didn't even really know their great grandmother. "Jude's actually at school? Did he find a new girl to follow around like a puppy?" He smirked and shook his head, his cousin was always after a new girl.
Rose turned the question on him and all he could do was shrug, "Everything is exactly the same. I've been harassing Mom to let me just move here, but she won't leave without uncle Miles and Aunt Spenny so I'm not sure if that'll ever happen. If I didn't have Sloane I guess it'd be a little harder."

Rose snorted at her cousin and patted his cheek. "It worked for your mom enough to have you." She winked. She liked to mess with her cousins. Even at her expense. Which got her into trouble plenty of times but who else could she do it to without the person actually taking it to heart? No matter how much they messed with each other, Rose, Jude and Liam had each other's backs.
She shook her head and shrugged. "That's probably why. She didn't see you enough."
Laughing at Liam's remark about the third stooge, Rose shook her head. "He's trying to help Mama so he's getting a proper degree and whatnot. I mean I'm not saying there isn't a girl but you know, he says they're added bonuses." She laughed.
Rose pouted at the thought of having to say goodbye to Liam again by the end of his trip. She groaned at the idea. "I wish she would at least let you stay more than a week. A month maybe. Two. It's not like we can't get you educated up here. You know Aunt Maya would get you a tutor in a heartbeat."
The mention of Liam's best friend sparked an interest in Rose. "Have you asked her out yet?" Rose asked with a wriggle of her eyebrows.

And what's the point of a memory
All Liam did in response to her statement about her parents and their grandmother was shrug. He didn't quite want to discuss his parents' relationship, they were gross enough at home. And their grandmother was gone, so he didn't see the point in dwelling to heavily on that situation either. He was more interested in his cousins' lives than anything having to do with him.
"'Added bonuses' why am I not surprised?" His eyes rolled back in his head and he laughed once. "Have you kept track of any of them? I mean, is it possible to keep track?" He wasn't judging his cousin for the way he was about women, but he didn't understand the eternal bachelor stigma. Obviously Liam wasn't anywhere close to being a ladies man, but even if he was, he couldn't possibly imagine juggling several. The idea was actually kind of terrifying. Girls were terrifying.
Liam frowned and shrugged, "I dunno. I'm shooting for a whole summer up here. That way she can't bring up school or anything stupid like that to keep me from coming up for longer. We can actually have real fun instead of half-assing it." He immediately regretted mentioning Sloane because his cousin's reaction was exactly the same as his mother's. He let out a prolonged groan and palmed his face, "Rose, no. What? No. Sloane is my best friend, that's...that's not okay. Not gonna happen. Nope."

The shrug got Liam a ruffling of his hair and Rose moved on from the subject. He was right, obviously, there really was no use dwelling on the situation. They were very good at sweeping things under the rug. Even if Liam's last name was Parker, he was, in every other way, a Spencer.
Snorting at Liam's remark about their eldest cousin, Rose shook her head. "I can hardly wrap my head around partners as a concept, let alone multiples of them." She responded. The idea of dating with her father always around was incredibly grueling that Rose gave up a long time ago. It wasn't that bad a thing, if she were to be honest. Boys were stupid. Even the nice ones were. She was very happy holding on to her chastity.
"Ooh, I bet she would be thrilled about that. Although I don't quite understand why they don't just move here. Uncle Max is from here, yeah? I mean Miles and Spence don't have anything tying them to the States either, why are they still there?"
The way Liam changed had Rose giggling as she fluttered her eyelashes at Liam. "Oh sure. Yes that's absolutely something I believe wholeheartedly." She snorted before waving a dismissive hand.
Her phone then buzzed on the table and she picked it up to find a text message from Jude saying he was on the way. And then a picture of an unfamiliar girl popped up on Rose's phone which resulted in an eyeroll of epic proportions. She showed the picture to Liam. "Something tells me on the way doesn't mean on the way here."

And what's the point of a memory
Liam realized that there was very little possibility that his mother would be happy if he spent a whole summer away from her and his father. It was strange hearing stories about her before he was born. She had been certifiably badass and in ways, much similar to him. She'd felt disconnected to people, everyone except Miles and Spencer. Liam felt disconnected from everyone except Sloane and his cousins. It made things more complicated given that Sloane and his cousins lived an ocean apart. If his mother was okay with it, Sloane wouldn't be. "I dunno, I think it's uncle Miles. He feels more...grounded in the States? Mom and Uncle Miles spent most of their lives there. I think it's just easier for them."
Grimacing at his cousin's reaction to his own response about his best friend, Liam tried to ignore it. Sloane was just his friend, they'd been raised around each other. His mom had gravitated towards her parents after the death that had disrupted a fair amount of their lives. He couldn't quite picture leaving her behind, but he wasn't sure that Gabriel and Bailey would ever leave the States.
His eyes dropped to the phone and he arched an eyebrow at her when she rolled her eyes dramatically. He didn't really need an explanation as to who it was, given that the picture he was shown was some girl that he'd never seen before. Liam followed suit and rolled his own eyes, "I don't want to think about where he's on his way to. Fuckin' Jude."

Rose pouted and nodded at Liam's explanation of the situation. She always felt so far away from the rest of her family. It was all well and good that she had Jude around but she missed everyone in the States as well. She hadn't seen Sawyer in forever. Uncle Dylan was grounded but his business trips didn't always cross over to the UK, which was really unfortunate.
Liam's response to the message had Rose laughing. "Fuckin' Jude indeed." She sighed, throwing her phone on to the couch beside her.
"So, what do you want to do while you're here this time around? Do you have any plans or do you just want to take it day by day?" Rose asked.

His eyes followed her phone and he turned back to look at her. He hadn't really thought of anything to do while he was visiting. It was purely just to get away for a while given that his school schedule allowed it. He just wanted some time away from America where everything was dull and lifeless and incredibly boring. His uncle James always made things entertaining and being with Rose was honestly the biggest reason he came around. It was harder to leave England than it was to leave the States, he found.
"I didn't really have anything planned. I definitely want to see uncle James though. Has he been working on anything new lately? Or has he finally snapped and gone into a Hobbit hole?" If there was anyone in his family that he'd expect to crack under the pressures of life, Liam always pegged his great uncle for it. No one could blame the guy, given what he's been through. There was always one looney family member that had all the stories. Theirs just happened to be an actual author. The man could make anything sound interesting, even something like watching paint dry.
Liam shrugged, "Take me to all the local hubs and teach me how the locals live. I need to know if I'm going to move here one day." And with as frequently as he was forced to go back to America, he often lost all his English charm a week later.

The mention of their great uncle James had Rose laughing. "Jude's been praying that wouldn't happen but I think Aunt Maya told Mama that she was going bonkers at home with him. That's why she's taken Mama up as a pet project. Too much money to spend with too much time made her nuts."
Bringing Liam around town would definitely be fun. And with Jude's knack of finding hidden gems, their days would be nothing but adventures.
"Deal." She nodded before jumping off the couch and grabbing Liam's hand. "Come on, let's go swimming first. I haven't had my exercise yet and you need to tone those arms to get Sloane to notice you." She paused and giggled before shaking her head. "I mean other girls. Not Sloane."

And what's the point of a memory
"The man is brilliant, I don't know where we went wrong with him," Liam laughed and shook his head. "I think he's going to end up in a home far before Aunt Maya anyway, so she should be happy with that." There was a price to pay when one had such a creative mind. They often went crazy in their mid-years. He supposed that James had held off for a little longer.
Her sudden enthusiasm made him arch an eyebrow which then was followed by an eyeroll. Swimming was all well and good, but the reason she gave for him to swim was not something he liked to think about. Sloane was just his friend. They were just friends and would always be just friends.
Liam took her hand regardless and followed after her. "What about you? Any guys on the horizon? Jude can't be the only one swarming with suitors. It's the Spencer thing right?" He didn't actually know, but all of them were happily married, so there had to be something to it right?
