{ } An almost visible sigh of relief fell from the brunette's lips as he reached for the document. He'd made himself very clear, though, had he not? And the conversation seemed to be over by this point.
Despite her naivety, Luxanna had never been one to push herself on anyone - especially not when they'd made it clear it was considered something bad. Besides, she wasn't exactly about to put him in that position. It wasn't fair, nor was she even sure if she really wanted to.
She supposed being so inexperienced with anything, both sex and feeling something different than friendship was Carter's saving grace.
"You're welcome," she replied and turned to look at the door. "I should go." She turned to look at him then, offering him a polite smile. "Never to touch, and never to keep. You loved too much, and you dived too deep." ulla |

i know she loves me through thick and thin Carter knew his commanding presence was enough to override most people. He knew exactly how to control a situation without directly speaking on it; it was a honed skill from so many years of working in any kind of business and doing it well. Though he looked like he was reading the page before him, his eyes were merely skimming the contents. He couldn't tell you a single thing on that page if asked.
It wasn't necessarily a bad thing that she took his cue, either. He expected she would. Regardless of who she was, there were few in this world who would misdirect Carter's intentions and try to push him further. It was because he knew that that he felt a kind of peace when she conceded.
Then he went against his usual rules and looked at her. Something felt necessary about it, too. His bright eyes turned to her mouth to catch the way she smiled at him. He felt the way he reciprocated the look with a smile of his own. It was rare to catch one on his mouth that wasn't coated with an obvious sense of superiority. "It was nice to see you." He admitted. Despite his earlier behaviour, at least that much was true. "Let's hope your father has a few more things he needs to send over, hmm?" |

{ } Averting her gaze then, because it was always easier when he looked at her, Luxanna nodded. "You too." It hadn't been all bad, although it now felt rather pointless. Sure, she might have learned something new, but it did nothing to rid her of her confusion or make any of this any clearer.
She supposed that was just how it was with him and how it always would be.
She was tempted to shrug it off or tell him it wasn't very likely, but she knew it would be a lie. Even if she didn't want to (in which case, she wasn't saying that she did), she didn't have the heart to turn her father's request down.
Instead, she opted for something easier before opening the door. "Tell Dom I said hi." And with that, she walked through the door. "Never to touch, and never to keep. You loved too much, and you dived too deep." ulla |
