{ } Boy was she glad she'd been able to get her hands on the whereabouts of the spare key to Evan's apartment. She'd quickly found out that anywhere that wasn't her own apartment was a place of solace and well, Evan had ended up being the victim of her random visits. Even when he wasn't present at the time.
Hadn't he known her for as long as he had, chances were, he'd found her either strange (see; creepy) or annoying, but Jessica liked to think that she'd grown on him.
She'd felt particularly restless today which had ended up with Jessica not only cleaning the entire place up, but also rearranging the furniture while doing so. Staring at the clock, it told her she didn't have much time to move everything back before Evan would return and she didn't have an excuse to serve him this time around.
Or rather... Not a very good one.
She heard the keys jingle and the lock twist and quickly spun around to face the opening door, arms lifting upwards, both hands covered in yellow rubber gloves. "I can explain!" "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" ulla

I will not ask you where you came from I will not ask and neither should you
Most of Evan's days consisted of staying at home, taking care of his daughter, writing music and fiddling with his guitar. However, there were some days that he took Avery to his best friend's house while he went to the music shop in town and taught guitar lessons to some people. It was a more steady gig than playing shows had been recently and he needed any money he could obtain on his own, simply to keep from asking his late wife's family for financial assistance. He was managing, trying to keep his act together as a single parent and keeping away from his earlier lifestyle well before Cora came into his life. In all of his juggling, he often struggled to maintain an orderly apartment. It wasn't dirty, but cluttered with sheet music, random notebooks, toys among other things.
Avery had conned Evan into letting her stay with Wyatt and Ethan for the night. While it was never ideal when he was away from her, he still enjoyed the days off when he could get them. He dug his keys out of his pocket, shifting his guitar bag so that it didn't hit him when he bent his head down to look at the lock. He pushed the door open with his foot and set his guitar down gently near the door. When the sudden outburst came from Jessica, he nearly jumped and was happy he'd set the instrument down before she scared the bejeezus out of him. Evan let out a huff of the air that he'd sucked in from being startled and shook his head, a small smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
"Back at it? Didn't you clean my apartment last week? I know I've got a toddler, but she's not that messy," He cracked a smile and shut the door behind him. "You know, I've got neighbors. They're going to find this whole thing suspicious and perhaps mistake you for some kind of kidnapper with a fetish for cleanliness." Oh he could only imagine what Mrs. Ida would say if she caught the two of them together. The woman had been trying to set him up with her daughter since he obtained the apartment. Before that, she'd even so much as said that she was single now. Evan's brows furrowed at the thought and he shook his head quickly to dismiss it.
Evan shrugged off his jacket and draped it over the counter where he set his keys down, "So what is it this time? Everything okay?"

{ } A frown touched the blonde's features as she looked around. A pout quickly replaced it as she looked him directly in the eye. "So what?" she asked, head tilting as her voice layered with pettiness. She wasn't really mad or even slightly annoyed, but she couldn't help feeling a little defensive - even if it wasn't warranted at all.
"Maybe I am a kidnapper," she finished as she swirled, eyes dropping to the floor as she looked for the mop. She'd had it only a few minutes ago...
His question brought a dismissive wave of her hand and a one-shouldered shrug. "I broke up with that guy I met at that coffee shop." She blew a strand of hair away from her eyes before turning her head to look at him over her shoulder, plastering her most innocent expression on her face. It hadn't really been her fault. "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" ulla

Evan raised his hands in surrender, "Nothing, no, it's not a problem. I was merely pointing it out is all." He didn't dare get on her bad side, even if he knew it was unlikely anyway. Not that he was much of a bragger, but he knew she couldn't really get upset with him. He was a gentle guy, someone that didn't rub people the wrong way very frequently. Besides, it was just a little light teasing, he didn't mind when she came into his house uninvited. He knew she wasn't actually a kidnapper, and if she was, she wasn't a very good one seeing as his child wasn't even at his home and Avery was familiar with Jessica and adored her.
He coughed to cover up a laugh, "Worst kidnapper ever."
She waved him off and his eyes narrowed, another break up, another unworthy guy. Evan couldn't say he was shocked, but he was polite enough not to throw that in her face. She knew her own baggage, just as much as he knew his own. No one needed it pointed out to them. He bit down on his lip and pursed them as he considered what to say next. The simplest question he could come up with seemed almost stupid, but he said it anyway. "Would you like to talk about it or are you just going to pretend like there isn't a story behind that face of yours?" Evan cracked a small smile, and pulled up a chair from the dining room to sit down and watch as she frantically sought out the mop that she had overlooked four times easily.

{ } Tossing a glare his way, Jessica stuck out her tongue at him; She'd never considered being a kidnapper, but she was certain she'd be a damn good one. Naturally, that was only her pride getting the best of her. Ironically, as many failed relationships as she'd had, she was still unable to admit to her own flaws.
And they were many too.
A sigh fell from the blonde's lips and she found her way to the couch (who still hadn't been moved back to where it was supposed to be) and dropped down onto her back, feet hanging out from the top. "Ah, you know," she said, waving her hand in the air. "A woman is nothing without a little mystery."
Chewing on her lip, she turned her gaze away; she had become so good at hiding behind all these defensive walls that there was no wonder few people took her seriously. In some ways, she liked it that way. It was so much easier to keep things simple. Too bad some people didn't feel the same way. "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" ulla
