Patch stared Layla down as she made her threat. He wasn't above kicking a girl's ass, especially when it was Layla. Also, she's made good on those threats and yet here they were, still best friends. "Yes." He nodded with a smug smile. Besides, if it made her think less about her predicament, he was going to take it.
The mention of the guy that put her in this position made his shadows vibrate, moving in erratic motions as he tried not to outwardly show his displeasure. He knew the guy was bad news and yet he hadn't said or done anything to keep Layla away from him.
He bowed his head briefly at her decision before looking up at her and inching the bottle of water closer to her. He took the other and unscrewed the cap to take a sip. "You heard the parents. We're here and we're not going anywhere. So you better not stay away from us because you wanna protect us or not burden us or some shit like that. I know you too well and you're going to do that so fuck that.
"Your ass should know better than to cross with Lavender Adams." Patch shrugged. His mother, though a healer, was a force to be reckoned with. She was a scary lady who looked and sounded like an angel. Layla had been witness to several of her outbursts. She knew.

All You Have Is Your Fire
don't you ever tame your demons
"You make me want to punch you in that smug ass face," She rolled her eyes and in spite of her irritation, she smiled at him. He really was the biggest pain in her ass that she'd ever known. But it was one of the reasons she loved him as much as she did. He wasn't afraid to make her mad and he was damn good at it.
He pushed the bottle of water towards her and she frowned, so pushy. Her hands wrapped around the bottle and she uncapped it before taking a drink. With her mouth full of water, she listened to him and remained thoughtful. When she finally swallowed she shrugged. What was she supposed to say? That she hadn't thought about it? Of course she thought about it, they all knew it. And although she loved that he was perfectly fine with taking on her burdens, she couldn't wrap her mind about being that for them. It always made her regret dragging Patch into her life. If she'd just stayed away from him, he wouldn't have had to deal with her.
But he was right, she didn't want to upset his parents. His mother had done so much more for her than her own ever bothered to. It wouldn't be fair to turn around and act ungrateful for it. She sighed and stared at the bottle, "I'll never understand your family and how I fit into it, Patch."

He leaned forward, crossing his arms on the table and grinned at her. "I know."
Smiling slightly to himself when she finally drank the water, he eased back into his chair and watched her. Her remark made him chuckle and shake his head. "It's probably best you never do. Just accept it and move on." He responded. "The parents are kind of grateful that you're in my life. You pulled me out of a dark place." He shrugged.
"You're an Adams, whether you like it or not."

All You Have Is Your Fire
don't you ever tame your demons
Layla found it really hard to accept that she was part of his family. She didn't quite feel like she fit in any of the families she was given. There was so much wrong with her. And she definitely didn't think they had any reason to feel grateful towards her for being part of his life. If anything, he was doing all the saving. But she didn't say so, she remained quiet and just took it as he said it.
With the bottle still in her hands, she brought it back to her lips and took another drink, her mind reeling over what she was going to say to her own parents. She breathed a sigh and shook her head, "How much do you want to bet that my parents lose it? I wouldn't put it past my mother to push me down the stairs or something just to get rid of it." Her fingers tapped her stomach lightly and she frowned as she looked down at it. She was going to get fat, she was going to have to eat.
Her eyes lifted back up to his in an attempt to distract from the other branch of thoughts she was having.

When Layla brought up her parents, Patch grimaced. "I'll catch you. No worries." He shrugged. He wasn't about to let her do it on her own. She knew being his friend came with a protection clause.
He reached a hand out to grab Layla's. "Lay...I know how hard it's going to be. Heinous bitches are hard to reason with." He grimaced. "But they're gonna find out eventually."
He frowned as he took a deep breath. "Maybe...tell Gert first?"

Letting out a short laugh, she nodded. He always was there to catch her, that was probably the strangest part. He'd never let her fall on her face the way that her parents seemed to let her. It took all she had not to just start crying again. He was too good to her.
His hand took hers and she lifted her eyes up to him. Patch was right. She had to laugh at his other suggestion though. "I'm not sure which is going to be worse. The heinous bitch telling me to get rid of it and kicking me out or..." She laughed again and pressed her other hand to her forehead, "Or Gerty being excited as hell and making a place for the little thing at the restaurant so I can bring it with me to work."
It would be so like her to demand babysitting opportunities. Layla was sure she wouldn't even charge for it.

Patch laughed at the mental image she gave for her grandmother's reaction to the news and grimaced playfully. "Yeah, I think I'd take Gert being excited over your mom being a dick any day."
He stood up and walked over to her to wrap his arm around her, kissing the top of her head. "Things are gonna turn out a lot better than you expect. I can feel it. And you know me...I'm the harbinger of doom these days so when I feel hopeful, you kinda do need to listen." He grinned, trying to joke.
What else could he do, really? This was a shitty situation to be in. And if all he could be was a shoulder for her to cry on, he was going to do it in a heartbeat. She was his soulmate for a reason.

Layla placed her palm to her forehead and shook her head. She would take telling Gerty over her mother, too. Still, she wasn't sure she was quite in the place to be as excited as Gerty would be. Especially if she didn't plan on keeping the baby. Gerty would insist that she does and, well, Layla would probably go with it because she couldn't say no to the older woman. She'd done everything for her the last few years.
When he stood up, she watched him come over to her and her eyes closed as his arms wrapped around her. His words made her smile and she figured that he was probably right. She wanted to believe that he was, anyway. There was an art to the way he always made her feel less miserable. It was the biggest reason she clung to him as tightly as she did. He was the only person in the world that she loved without hesitation.
Layla stood up so that she could properly hug him, her arms wrapping around his waist as her face buried in his shoulder. She was pretty sure that he was the only thing that kept her on her feet. She hugged him tight and sighed, "You're pretty much the best person I know, Patchy. And I think I should apologize ahead of time for the inevitable crazy that is going to come from the hormonal imbalance." She peeked up at him and smiled, "But you have to love me regardless."

When Layla stood up to hug him properly, there was no hesitation from Patch as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Her compliment made him roll his eyes but he kept quiet. He pitied the fact that he was; she needed more good people in her life other than him.
He laughed and looked down at her with a raised eyebrow. "Inevitable? Oh you mean this is you sane? Good Lord." He chuckled before pressing his lips on her forehead. "Nah man, I ain't goin' nowhere." He shook his head and squeezed her.
"You're stuck with me for life, Harlow."

Layla looked up at him when he looked down at her and her eyes narrowed. "You're an ass, Patrick," She stated although she couldn't help but smile when his lips touched her forehead. It honestly didn't matter what he said to her, one kiss on the forehead and any anger or frustration she held for him just dripped away.
Gripping his t-shirt, she nuzzled his chest and squeezed back, "I think you mean that you are stuck with me for life, Adams. And I can tell you right now, I'm a stage five clinger. Good luck getting my leech ass off of you." She peeked back up at him and grinned.
"You know, I feel bad for this kid getting stuck with us for nine months. It's gonna be hella ready to be taken away when it pops out."

"What? I have a beautiful ass? Oh, I knew that." Patch shrugged as he hugged Layla. He chuckled at her words and shook his head. "I already knew that, silly."
He looked down and opened his mouth, threatening to bite her nose at her grin.
Patch chuckled. "Can you imagine, the baby still bloodied with bits of you stuck to it just going "Get me outta here!" and rolling helplessly on the floor. Wait sorry no that's not funny." Even as he said it, he was laughing.

All You Have Is Your Fire
don't you ever tame your demons
Her eyes rolled back in her head and she rested her head on his chest, "My best friend is mental." It was said quietly, more to herself than it was meant for him, but she also hoped he'd hear it. Layla loved that he could be goofy and never took himself to seriously even when the world was crumbling.
She looked back up at him and swatted at his face when he threatened to bite her, "Keep your mouth to yourself, Patchy. I don't want your cooties." (Big fat lie.)
When he began to describe a very vivid and very grotesque image of a bloody baby her face contorted and she put a hand over her mouth, shaking her head back and forth. Her stomach was not strong enough for that image, but she figured it was only because she already felt sick about being pregnant. She pushed away from him for some space and grabbed the bottle of water that was sitting on the table still. After a few breaths and a long drink, she settled her queasy stomach and shot a glare at him, "That's fucking deranged, Patch. No way in Hell are you going to be in the room now."

Patch chuckled at Layla's mumble. He was glad she appreciated his attempt at humour. He knew they were in the shitter but he couldn't stand seeing his best friend this way. If he could do anything to alleviate her pain, he was going to do it.
"I got my cootie shots when I was ten. I'm clean." He shrugged and when she backed away from him, he laughed even more, backing up to the kitchen counter as he wiped at his tearing eyes.
"Oh no, what a tragedy." He howled as he shook his head. "I'm sorry, I really am I'm really sorry." He kept repeating as he tried to stop laughing.

All You Have Is Your Fire
don't you ever tame your demons
Layla was not as amused by his comment, but she wasn't surprised by it either. He was a nutcase, just as much as she was just in a different way. She took a few more moments to make sure she wasn't going to throw up before she walked over to him in a few strides and poked his stomach, "You fucking dork." And while she disregarded his weird take on what was going to happen when her baby was born, she couldn't help but linger on the fact that he didn't seem bothered by not being in the room.
It actually made her sort of panic at the thought of not having him there to hold her hand to get her through it.
She turned away again and wrapped her arms around her stomach as she went back to the table to sit down. Layla didn't want him to know what she was thinking, not by a long shot, but the way her hormones were already starting to flare up, she wasn't sure how long she'd be able to remain indifferent. "What do you think it'll be? A boy or a girl?"

"But you love me." He slipped in the middle of his laughing before he finally stopped, completely oblivious to Layla's inner turmoil. If she had expressed her concerns, Patch wouldn't have known if he would have answered with what she wanted to hear.
When she asked her question, Patch propped his elbow up on the kitchen table with his chin in his hand and contemplated on his answer.
"I dunno. It'd be kinda cool if it was a girl." He finally responded with a small smile. "A little mini you running around..."
