offer me that deathless death
only then I am human
Ethan had been sitting on Faith's number for awhile. He had told his brothers that he didn't want to be set up but Faith had been a wild card he hadn't pegged on. The Christmas party had been an eye opener and now he wanted to get to know her better. As he paced the living room, Wyatt came to mind and he ran his fingers through his hair. He was one other reason he was very cautious about when it came to even hanging out with someone other than the circle of friends Wyatt had grown up with. The only women he actually knew were Halley, Emma and Layla and Ethan had never hung out with them in the capacity that he wanted to with Faith. He didn't want to scare Wyatt and he definitely didn't want to scare Faith off. Wyatt didn't seem to have problems with Faith, the few times they had met. Faith didn't seem to mind either so he really didn't know why he was being so cautious. "Fuck!" He exclaimed with a chuckle before sending a text to Faith. Hey, Faith. It's Ethan. Will you be free this weekend? None of the boys want to go skydiving with me and I was thinking you'd be up to it? Show them up?

I think I'll pass on the summer.
Emma was relentless. And so was her brother and boyfriend. All it took was one Christmas party and they all were chatting her up about the third stooge. It wasn't that she was against getting to know Ethan, she was just hesitant. She was a man-eater and for them to trust her with one of their own, well, she was a little surprised. Not only that, but, he had a child to worry about and she had only ever been around Leah and Jamie as she was getting older. The motherly vibe wasn't for Faith, despite how much she cared for the only two kids in her life.
In all fairness, Wyatt was a sweetheart and Faith had loved his sass since she met him. And it made Ethan much hotter when she saw the way he interacted with his son. She could feel herself getting soft and she wasn't quite sure she was okay with that. Emma would have a field day if she found out, but Faith was working on remaining aloof to the whole thing. There was no way she planned on giving away that she held the human capacity to love or rather, strongly like.
She'd just been walking out of work when she heard a bubble pop, signaling that she'd received a text message. She expected it to be Emma or Nick, but was surprised when she didn't recognize the number. Sliding her finger across the message, she read it and her lips curled up at the sides slowly. Ethan. Go figure.
My, my, Parks, if I didn't know any better, I would say that sounds like a date?
Faith couldn't help herself, playing hard to get was just something she'd always done.
Ain't gonna fall for it this time.

He was glad Wyatt wasn't around to witness his undoing. This was hardly how he wanted his son to see him, unsure of himself and getting flustered over asking a woman out.
He may be a private contractor but that hardly meant anything when it came to women and their wiles. He was easily a hump and dump guy but Faith was part of their family. If he did that to her, Emma would most likely skin him alive. He could handle his brothers being a pain about it but Emma was a monster.
The response came and he had to chuckle. He sat down on the couch and sent a text back.
This is definitely a date, doc. I just don't do the sit down and eat ones. Although there will be food so wear something comfortable. Are you in?

I think I'll pass on the summer.
While she wasn't entirely sure of her schedule, what with appointments and such, she was intrigued by his idea for a date. How often could she say that she'd gone skydiving on her first date? None so far, so why should she hold back now? It was much more up her alley than mindless conversation. Her job was to talk to people, she liked doing things when she wasn't stuck in the office. It was the only thing that had kept her for the most part sane.
Faith tapped her lower lip at his response and she had to laugh at the way he had put into words what she was thinking for herself. Sit down and eat dates were honestly the worst. Especially since she wasn't quite good at the talking thing, she was a listener to her core because it kept her a mystery. At least this way she wouldn't really have to do much chatting, nor would she have to wear some tight dress that made her assets stick out way more than they normally did. Something comfortable was always the better option.
She grinned and let her fingers tap out her response.
I do believe my schedule is clear. When are we doing this? Congratulations, you've peaked my interest.
Ain't gonna fall for it this time.

Waiting for a reply when that was all you had to do for the day was ridiculously tiring. It also caused a lot of anxiety in the private contractor. He was trained to withstand a number of uncomfortable situations but waiting for a text from a girl he liked was not one of them. But he was rewarded with her positive response and he couldn't help but give out a sigh of relief. He was just glad they were texting and not talking face to face. He would have blown his cool persona in front of her otherwise. Saturday at 11? The AV-8 down at Keller St. I'll meet you there. Looking forward to it, doc.

At least he wasn't trying to pick her up and give her no escape from the date on the off chance it went terribly. Of course deep down she knew that she couldn't bail on him or ditch him even if it wasn't a great date. And she knew she couldn't stand him up either. This was just one of those times that she had to bury all of her initial reactions and escape routes. Ethan wasn't a bad guy, he was at the very least attractive, she could stand to go on one date with him without being a flight risk.
Faith smiled, it couldn't possibly be that bad anyway.
See you there, Parks.
Ain't gonna fall for it this time.
