I'm so caught up
I don't know what it is
It had been a week since he started his job and he was still uncomfortable in his suits. He had to be in them twenty hours a day practically. He didn't know how the Sergeant Major did it but Hunter wanted to just chill in a t-shirt and his army pants.
The Charlotte end of the job wasn't going particular well either. There was no mutual trust, which was a huge problem given the nature of his job. He just couldn't stand her prissy attitude. He wanted to blame her upbringing but he could only do that for so long until he had to concede to the fact that Charlotte was just a brat.
His ability didn't allow him to sleep all that much so he knew her comings and goings at all times. As promised, she didn't know as and when he was lurking so it made his job easier. So far, she hadn't been causing trouble but he knew it was only a matter of time.
And that time came sooner than he expected. It was around two in the morning when he heard movement coming from the direction of her room and he slipped his gun into the back of his pants before going upstairs. He kept to the shadows and when he got to her room, he tried to open the door but it was locked.
"Damn it." He rushed downstairs and found her tiptoeing to the garage. "Can't you just stay in your room for one night?" He grumbled as he waited for her to get in her car and drive off. He got on his bike and followed her, turning the car's GPS on and following her at a safe distance.
She made her way to a club and after a few minutes, he followed, keeping a fair distance but also an eye out on her. He hated the loud music, the proximity of people and the fact that Charlotte was letting anyone just touch her. But as long as she didn't push them away, he wasn't stepping in.
He made note of how much she drank and by the time she made her way to the entrance of the club, she was swaying from side to side. There was no way he was letting her go home driving. He had called the driver to stand by and by the time she stumbled out of the club, he saw the driver waiting outside.
Once he was sure she was safe in the car, he got on his bike and pelted back to the house, waiting for her at the entrance. After a few minutes of waiting, the car finally peeled into the driveway and into the garage and he thanked the driver before taking Charlotte into the house, depositing her on the couch before going to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.
"Wake up, Charlotte." He shook her gently.
But it seems she got me twisted

Waiting Game
I wish I was in love
Charlotte had tried, really tried, to be on somewhat good behavior. She'd told him she wouldn't make his job difficult if he went along with her silly rules. He hadn't really done a very good job at following the rules she gave, despite the fact that they were all easy. She wasn't born yesterday. She knew that he reported to his superiors, one of which being her brother. He barely spoke and he didn't make it very well known that he thought she was a brat. It wasn't her fault if he was going to be a total bore at all times of the day. There had to be a personality in there somewhere, right? He'd joked with her before about the babysitting gig, but now it actually felt that way.
Maybe that was why she decided to take her chances and have fun. Who was he to stop her? A dignified diaper changer. She was twenty-one, she could do whatever she wanted to without answering to anyone.
She was quiet as she got dressed in the slinkiest dress she could find. Once she finished her hair and makeup, she slipped out of her bedroom after locking the door. She had a feeling it would just be easier to call him out on invading her privacy if he brought it up later. Her feet barely hit the stairs as she flew down them quietly and out towards the garage. Before she got in her car, she flipped him a finger from where she knew his bedroom was and got in her car.
At the club, she knew she was going to need her driver in order to get home. She had one that knew her well and that usually was nice enough not to rat her out. She'd sent a message to him, unaware of another text telling him to wait outside as well. She was doing shots two at a time, dancing and jumping around to the music. All thoughts of her brother and her bodyguard were slipping away and she was just engulfed in the excitement of the music and the crowd. Nobody paid her any mind, just as she expected and by the time she was barely able to stand, she did what she could to make it outside and to the car that was ready to take her home. Charlotte gave the driver a pat on the cheek as he helped her inside and she was passed out five minutes after hitting the road.
Char was unaware of her surroundings. She'd been so sure that the arms that were carrying her were her driver's, so she made no movement to wake up fully. She felt the fabric of the couch against her cheek and she curled up in a ball, shivering from the lack of clothing on her. As she was shook, she protested and groaned, "Ian, I'm fine, go away."
But I don't wanna cause any pain

He sat beside her before pulling and propping her up. He patted her cheek a couple of times to wake her up before grabbing the glass of water and holding it up to her lips. "Come on, Charlotte wake up. You're gonna regret waking up later if you don't." He said.
It was close to six in the morning and he was supposed to be on duty in two more hours. This was not his job.
"Charlotte, wake up and drink." He shook her again, forcefully this time.

Waiting Game
I wish I was in love
She groaned again and mumbled more protests as he propped her up. The more he called her by her full name, the more it started to register that her driver was not the one handling her. Her eyes fluttered open reluctantly and she wiped at them to help clear her vision. Her eyes settled on the icy ones in front of her and she immediately recognized them as the ones that had been watching her the last week.
Charlotte swore and smacked at his hands, her own gripping the couch so that she could remain steady, "The fuck d'you want? Stop nagging at me." She grabbed the water and took a long drink, swallowing slowly so that she could keep from saying much more. She knew she was in for it. Not just from him, but from her brother too. There was no way he hadn't already planned to tell Will.
"You're just grouchy because I can have fun and you can't," Charlotte reached out to pat his cheek. "Don't worry, I wouldn't tell if you did. But nooo. Nope, nope, nope. You've gotta be the fun police."

He frowned at her coarse language. He grew up in the military but he never really understood the need to swear on a daily basis. "Be quiet. Your brother will hear you." He responded.
When she continued to talk shit about him, Hunter closed his eyes and sighed. He leaned away from her when she reached out to pat his cheek.
He then remembered that her room was locked and he grumbled to himself before standing up. He took the glass from her and set it on the table. "Come on, you need to rest." He said before scooping her up and bringing her over to his still unfurnished room. If she protested, he didn't listen.
He put her on his bed and started to leave the room. "I'll get you some aspirin and water later. Just...don't vomit on the pillows."

Waiting Game
I wish I was in love
Charlotte couldn't help but mock him when he mentioned that her brother was going to hear. What did he care? Wasn't he planning on telling Will anyway? She considered yelling and telling her brother herself from the living room, but Will was more vicious when he didn't get sleep. And she was too drunk to come up with a decent argument for him. Besides, she wanted to be sober when he realized that he was being a shit brother, just so she could revel in it.
Before she could say much else, he had scooped her up again like she was some kind of doll and she wondered how they planned on getting into her room. If she had her wits about her, she'd have probably been able to pick the lock, but she definitely didn't have the right mind to do it. Her arms folded across her chest initially, but she could hardly protest when he was warm and she was exhausted. Her head ended up against his shoulder and she could feel her eyelids getting heavy.
He emptied her onto his bed and she grumbled, "It's cold now." She didn't pay his words much mind, her hand just waved dismissively at his comment. Charlotte curled up around the pillow and took a deep breath before she eased into a dead sleep.

He looked at her just before she curled up and he winced. He was used to sleeping in the cold, especially now that winter's over, he kept his window open most nights.
Walking over to the closet, he took out a blanket and unfurled it before draping it over the young woman. He left the room and closed the door before heading to the kitchen to grab a beer.
It was eight in the morning when he finally walked back into his room to find Charlotte still sleeping. He grabbed his things to bring to the shared bathroom, taking a quick shower and changing before bringing the promised aspirin and water into the room.
He let her sleep as he stationed himself outside of his room, waiting for her to wake up.

Waiting Game
I wish I was in love
There was no way of telling how much time passed by the time she woke up. The sun was blasting into the window and she woke with saliva filling her mouth and a sharp twinge of pain in her stomach. She threw the blanket off of her and bolted to the bathroom, emptying the alcoholic contents in her stomach for a long while. Charlotte sat on the bathroom floor, her knees pulled up to her chest. The thought of moving made her stomach twist again and she gagged.
Her eyes scoured over the bathroom and she realized that it wasn't hers, nor was it her bedroom that she'd come from. When it finally dawned on her where she was, she let out a groan of frustration and the heal of her palm went straight to her forehead. There wasn't much she could remember from the night before, which was exactly what she'd intended by drinking the way that she had.
It took her about fifteen minutes before she was sure she wasn't going to throw up again. Charlotte stood up carefully and glanced around the room before her eyes landed on water and aspirin beside the bed. She gingerly walked over to the stand and took the meds, sipping at the water as to not upset her stomach again. With a deep breath, she pursed her lips and opened the door. She stepped out slowly and awkwardly, leaning against the doorframe for a moment her eyes settled on him, "You could have left me on the couch so you could sleep."

He heard the very faint wretching coming from inside at some point and he winced. He stood where he was, hoping it wasn't too serious, and just due to the alcohol she had ingested only a few hours ago.
Standing at attention when the door finally opened, a little smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "I don't sleep." He responded before finally turning to her.
"Did you take the aspirin?"

The smile made her feel like there was a small chance he wasn't going to go into full lecture mode. She would remember his words for when she thought about sneaking out again. That explained a lot, although it didn't explain everything. She was so sure she'd been quiet.
Her eyes darted around briefly, as if she was waiting for Will to pounce on her and unleash the frustrations he held for her. It nearly made her laugh that she believed he would care enough to do it in person. She looked back at him, realizing that he was probably the messenger that was sent to chastise her. His question, while innocent, seemed to be the prelude to the inescapable lecture she was no doubt going to have.
Charlotte nodded and wrapped her arms around herself, aware of the skimpy outfit she chose because of the goosebumps that had risen on her skin, "Thanks. I know it's your job and all, but you could have just let me suffer."

Nodding at her response, he shook his head. "Not in my job description." He said in response to her comment about letting her suffer. "You better go and wash up in your own room before your brother sees you in this."
Although Hunter wasn't the type to judge anyone by the way they dressed, he knew Will wouldn't appreciate his baby sister in this. He also knew that might be exactly why Charlotte was in it in the first place.
"And please stop sneaking out. You're going to cost me my job." Hunter added with an inaudible sigh. It may not be a job he was happy doing but it paid his bills and was going to put his sister through college. He wasn't about to let this woman who didn't have to worry about her finances ruin that.

Waiting Game
I wish I was in love
When the lecture didn't come, she realized that he hadn't mentioned anything to Will yet. If he was worried about her brother seeing her in the outfit she chose, Will didn't know she snuck out. Her teeth sank into her lip and she nodded slowly. It was safe to say that he'd done what she asked, reluctant as she was about admitting it. She figured she could give him a break from her troublemaking for now, but it didn't do anything for her. Will still ignored her and sent everyone else to do the job that was meant for him.
As she was walking away, she heard his words and she frowned. She'd pointed it out to him that her business was hers and she wasn't going to let her brother ruin someone else's life just because he couldn't rein her in. Charlotte knew that it wasn't worth saying because he'd already drawn his conclusions about her and the type of person she was. It didn't matter that she had any say in what happened. Will could try and pull rank, but if she could just get through to him then there wouldn't have been any reason for Hunter to worry.
Charlotte kept her mouth shut the whole way upstairs and was quiet as she worked on getting her door unlocked. She got into the shower and washed off the night. After a while of standing under the searing water, she stepped out and got dressed in more comfortable clothes. She had no reason to leave the house, so she put her hair up. Her stomach had finally settled, but she was still feeling just as miserable as she always did. While she agreed not to sneak out again, she did keep her door shut and remained there for the rest of the day.
But I don't wanna cause any pain
