all my loving
tomorrow i'll miss you
Ally was decidedly not a morning person. In fact, she would go so far as to say she hated the mornings. The sun didn't need to be shining so brightly and the birds shouldn't be chirping so loudly. People who had a smile on their faces in the morning should be murdered in the most horrendous way possible.
But when she opened her eyes and saw herself looking at her five year old who had a goofy grin on his face and a plate of messily made blueberry waffles, all that anger melted away. She spent the rest of the morning talking to her very chatty son, getting him ready for kindergarten and then out the door she went just in time to see her neighbour, Elliot with his daughter Avery.
Isaiah ran straight to Avery, hugging her and pulling her towards Elliot's car, leaving Ally with Elliot, holding Isaiah's Wonder Woman lunchbox. "Morning." She greeted her neighbour with a grin. "He woke up extra early today for some reason and kept babbling about you and Avery." She chuckled and handed the lunchbox to Elliot. "I'll pick them up after school. Do you want me to send Avery to the store?"

Death of a Bachelor
Happily ever after, a lifetime of laughter
Elliot did not have to worry about mornings very often. Not early mornings anyway. Ever since she was born, Avery had slept like a champ. The older she got, the worse it was trying to wake her up in time for school. She was like dead weight when she slept. The only way he'd found to wake her up was to set an alarm with the wailing of a guitar on blast. She hated it and it also happened to wake him up around the same time so that if she chose to turn it off, he could pull her out of bed.
She'd woken up easily today, probably due to the excitement of spending time with the neighbor kid that she treated as her own personal baby doll. He was a good kid, and Elliot knew that Avery's influence wouldn't be bad for him. He'd raised a decent enough kid. After she sprung out of bed, ate her fruit loops and got ready, she was pulling him out the door. It was just a good thing that he didn't take long to get ready. Jeans, t-shirt, flannel and a beanie was all it took for him. She yanked on his arm and he put the brakes on to make it harder for her to pull him, "Dad...why...are you..such...a pain!" She grunted and pulled harder.
When they made it outside, he started loading up his jeep. Avery's things took up a little space while the rest of his trunk was filled with a few amps that he was taking to the store. As he was ducking his head to climb out of the car, he heard a voice behind him. He noticed that the younger boy had already trapped his daughter and he grinned at the sight. "Yeah, Ave was quick to get up this morning, too. Best buds and all."
He took the lunchbox from her and nodded, "I don't think you'd have much choice. Avery has been on me about the store. I think she runs it more than I do." Elliot laughed and rubbed the back of his neck.

She smiled widely at Elliot's remark about the two kids. She remembered when Elliot and her were the same when they were much younger. It was a little sad that they sort of drifted apart. "Remember when we used to be that close?" She chuckled lightly.
Laughing at the sheer truth behind his remark about his daughter, she nodded and her smile softened when he rubbed the back of his neck. Admittedly, Ally had always thought Elliot was a bit of a dreamboat. And those little gestures made him even more attractive. She tried to keep it in her pants while children were present.
Clearing her throat, she nodded and smiled at Elliot. "Zay might want to hang out with his favourite person today too. Maybe I could get us some dinner later." She suggested. Subtle, Ally. So subtle.

Death of a Bachelor
Happily ever after, a lifetime of laughter
Whens he brought up their past, Elliot smiled wistfully and sighed. He remembered it vaguely, but he tried not to think back on his past too often. There were a lot of problems that hadn't been resolved, most of which he hadn't let on to his daughter. By the time that he and Ally began to drift, it was around the time that the problems began. His childhood got cut short and he was in charge of being the ultimate caretaker in his family. He was the only boy in a sea of women in his home, and though it hadn't been the worst thing most of the time, he didn't quite enjoy all of the emotions that he had to deal with. It was a good thing now, as he was approaching puberty with his daughter. "Yeah, those were the golden days, weren't they?"
He'd gotten distracted by Avery's selection in music, but his attention was recaptured by Ally's suggestion. Elliot turned to look back at her and he smiled, "Right on, sounds like a good time. I can teach little man all the music things." Because his musical influence was necessary in young lives. He'd trained his daughter well in her tastes and he always enjoyed playing in front of people. It'd been such a long time since he played any real gigs, but Avery was always on him to put on mini shows for her and her friends.
"I'll supply the drinks. Both adult and kid friendly, yeah?"

Missing the signs that pointed to Elliot having a not so sweet memory ringing through his head, Ally concentrated on the smile on his face before her eyes went back up to his and nodded. "Sure were." She nodded distractedly.
"Great. Yeah, it's a shame he has a tone deaf mother." She snorted, holding on to how Elliot had called Isaiah "little man".
"Sounds good. I'm gonna say goodbye to Zay first before you go." She went over to where her son had gone and gestured for him to roll the window down. "Hey cutiepie, you forgot to give me a kiss."
Isaiah gasped and reached out to wrap his arms around her neck, pulling her tight against him before slobbering kisses all over her face. "Sorry mama!" He grinned before patting her cheeks. "Bye mama!" He waved at her and she waved back, her heart blossoming at the love she had for her baby boy. She waved to Avery as well before stepping back on to the curb.

Happily ever after, a lifetime of laughter
As Ally went to say goodbye to her son, Elliot finished getting the back of the car situated. He shut the hatch and went around to the passenger side where Avery was, leaning against the door. He noted that she didn't have her seatbelt on and he frowned, "Park it and buckle, you know the drill. Music isn't the first priority."
She groaned and did as she was told before flicking him in the nose, "You're such a parent, it's gross. Stop. We both know that music is always the first priority." He swatted at her hand and leaned in to kiss her forehead just as Ally finished up her goodbyes.
He pulled back and gave her a wide smile, "I'll see ya later, Al. If you need me to get anything else, just let me know." Elliot moved around the front of his car and got into the driver's side. Once he checked to see if everyone was settled, he waved at Ally and took off towards the school where he'd drop the kiddies off on his way to The Piano Notes.

tomorrow i'll miss you
Once she couldn't see the Jeep, Ally went back to the house and went on with her day. She had two appointments back to back scheduled for the day, a newborn and a cake smashing for a two year old.
Once that was done, she spent the rest of the day bothering her mother into playing video games until it was time to pick the kids up from school. Isaiah bounded up to her and jumped up into her arms while Avery gave her a quick high five before they both climbed into the backseat.
Avery made sure that Isaiah was strapped in before buckling herself up. Ally gave her a choice on the tunes and once the music started playing, they were off to the store.
Ally had taken some pride in her appearance today, as opposed to her usual t-shirt and sweats around the house. She'd chosen a soft blue flower printed dress with a dark blue cardigan, pulling her hair up in a ponytail with minimal make up.
Of course it wasn't to impress Elliot.
When they finally arrived, she walked into the store with the kids in hand and let go once they were in. They ran straight to Elliot, chatting about their day and what they wanted to do now.
"Good sales day today?" She asked, leaning against the counter where Elliot was.

Death of a Bachelor
Happily ever after, a lifetime of laughter
The dinging of the bell along with the loud, screeching of his child was all the signal that he needed that they were back from school. Elliot was dusting off the guitars that were hanging as the two kiddos rushed him. He turned and caught his daughter before she could do some damage by plowing into him. Isaiah followed close behind and he hefted the younger boy up in his arms. The way they both chatted his ear off only made him smile. While Isaiah hadn't always been quite as chatty, he knew he had a bad influence in Avery.
He moved to the counter so that he could set Zay on it beside Avery who was struggling to pull herself up. Elliot gave her a boost and leaned his elbows on it beside them close to where Ally was leaning. He grinned up at her and shrugged, "It was okay, had a few lessons today, got a jump on cleaning up the merch. I've been pretty darn productive today." He nudged the little boy's leg beside him and smirked, "But nothing like these two I'm sure."
Avery snorted, "Dad, you told me I could help clean the instruments. Can I start now? Zay can help! Please, c'mon, I'll be super careful." She turned on the puppy dog eyes and Elliot squeezed his own shut to keep from seeing her.
"You can clean the old ones, yeah, they're not as expensive and most of them are mine," He stood up and helped both kids off the counter. "That doesn't mean we're going to pull any Pete Townsend guitar smashing, alright? Save that for the God of Smash," He ruffled her hair and she was off with her hand gripping Isaiah's, tugging him along to the antique spot. Elliot turned back to Ally and smiled, "You look nice, do anything fun today? Dogs? Cats? Or kids?"

"Look at you," she grinned as he responded. "Oh don't get me started on these two. Zay wouldn't stop talking about how much he owned the playground today."
Isaiah grinned at Elliot toothily. "I so did though!" He chirped before adding on to the puppy dog eyes when Avery mentioned cleaning guitars. "Yeah, please?" He cupped his cheeks and smiled.
Ally snorted and rolled her eyes. "Emotional terrorists." She remarked and watched as they rushed off. She turned to Elliot when he complimented her. She raised one shoulder nonchalantly and looked down at her dress. "What, this old thing? Found it lying on the floor." She shrugged.
"Kids. The most beautiful blue eyes on both of them. One of them was a cake smashing and I actually got a piece of it. It was pretty good. You don't get a lot of people choosing blackforest cakes for their kids but apparently it was the kid's favourite."
Ally snapped her fingers when she remembered something. "Oh dude, I hate to spring this on you at the last minute but I'll be going to White Pines this Saturday for a friend's wedding but Zay has a piano lesson and my parents are gonna be at the restaurant the entire day. Is it at all possible for Zay to stay with you?" She pursed her lips and smiled hopefully as she brought her joined hands up to her chin in a pleading manner.

Elliot's lips quirked up at the side when she played off her attire. He wasn't one to judge, nor did he feel it necessary to argue with her, if she wanted to play it off he was going to let her. He nodded along to her words as she went on about the children she photographed. Most of the pictures in the last couple of years that he had of Avery were in large part due to Ally. She was such a talented photographer, he'd even considered asking her help to revamp his advertisement for the store, but hadn't gotten around to it. She was more of a people photographer anyway.
"Always a good day when you can get cake. I wish my customers brought me cake," He scrunched his nose, before breaking out into a laugh. Most of the people that came into his store were metal heads and parents that wanted their child to learn the piano or the guitar. Some of the moms had given him the eye, sure, but none came bearing cupcakes.
Her sudden gesture made his eyebrows shoot up and he smiled, "Sounds like a good time. I don't mind, Ave will probably be happy as a clam. She's always bugging me to hang out with you more so she can see him anyway." The pleading gesture was ultimately unnecessary because he'd have caved one way or another.

Ally chuckled at his scrunched nose, damning and at the same time thanking whoever created him. He was too cute for his own good and Ally wanted no part of it. Okay that was a lie, she wanted all parts of it.
"You get eye candy though, does that count?" She raised her hands up, presenting herself with a grin.
She patted his arm and placed a hand over her chest in a dramatic gesture of gratitude. "Ooh, you are a saint. I wish I could bring him along but I rescheduled his piano lessons a few times already so his teacher doesn't appreciate it." She shrugged in a "What can you do" manner. "Okay, I think the kids have been way too quiet for too long, I'll go check on them." She chuckled and walked over to the kids. She supervised them so that Elliot could do his job.
Time passed quickly and before she knew it, it was time to go and get dinner for the lot. "Mama can Avery come with us to get dinner?" Isaiah asked, looking at Ally and then at Elliot for permission.
With Elliot's response, Ally brought them along to the nearby cafe. After getting everyone's orders, Avery and Isaiah both helped bring the food back to the store.

Elliot had to admit that the eye candy was worth it, but he didn't like the term applied to her. She was more than eye candy, she was smart and spunky and fun to be around. Her looks were just an added bonus to the rest. "Of course it counts. Couldn't do without it," He smiled back at her.
While they were gone, Elliot continued getting everything cleaned up around the shop. He answered a few questions of customers and cycled through a different playlist for the store's radio. Business began slowing down by the time they got back and he heard his stomach start rumbling. Avery came bounding in and did a twirl as she set the food down on the counter, "Fooooood," She said in a deep and monster-like voice.
Elliot laughed and rolled his eyes at his child, "You're such a freak, Ave. Hop up, get situated and lets dish it out, babe." Avery nodded and pushed herself up on the counter, her feet dangling as she started laying out the food for the rest of them.

"Charmer." She smirked at him, feeling her cheeks heat up and thanking God it was hard to notice when she blushed. It was a little hard to notice when Elliot blushed too, now that she thought about it. He was such a chill dude that it just doesn't seem all too possible to embarrass him in any way.
Avery's enthusiasm reminded her of how she had been when she was a child. How animated she had been. It was definitely hilarious to see with her own eyes.
She helped Avery with the food before pulling Isaiah up on the counter as well. He did his part, changing up the food placements before deciding the original placement was good enough and they all dug in.
They were all so comfortable in each other's company that conversation flowed naturally and when Elliot and Ally stopped talking, Avery and Isaiah happily stepped in.
She found herself absorbed in the kids' lives more often than not, chiming in and genuinely interested in what they had to say, often times just staring at them instead of putting her fork in her mouth and just letting it stay in the air for a few seconds. She loved photography and there were times when she wished she had her camera with her to capture an especially sweet moment between the kids, or when Elliot looked especially handsome, but when the moment passed, she was just happy she saw it at all.
Soon enough, they were done with dinner and it was time to cart themselves home. She could see Isaiah leaning against Avery sleepily already. "I better check out before Mr. Sleepyhead gets cranky. I'll see you tomorrow, Elliot." She gave him a quick kiss on his cheek and picked Isaiah up into her arms.
She ruffled Avery's hair and thanked her for taking such good care of Isaiah.
