And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
As Emma fussed over Halley's veil, the blonde couldn't help staring off to the side, wishing she had her mother with her. Layla had been amazing, obviously. She doted on Halley and made her feel like part of the family almost immediately and although Halley loved her like a mother, Layla wasn't hers.
A tear escaped the healer's eyes and she quickly wiped it away. Emma hadn't noticed yet as she was smoothing down the ruffled layers of the dress. She looked up at Halley and smiled. "Hon, you look amazing." She grinned. Halley smiled widely before turning to the door as Bailey entered. She took in a shaky breath and stepped towards her best friend, her hand snatching Emma's as she pulled them both into a hug.
"I seriously need to rethink putting on any makeup today." Halley said with a laugh, tightening her hold around the two people she couldn't live without. Aside from the one she was about to get married to, obviously.
"Guys...guys I'm dying." She laughed again, this time through tears.
And never seemed so right before

Same Drugs
where did you go to end up right back here?
Weddings were always something that Bailey got excited about. It didn't matter if it was someone that she barely knew or even if it was someone she wasn't fond of, she found a way to be excited. For it to be her best friend's wedding, well, Bailey was next level all over the place. She was frantic, running around the hall, making sure that everything was set up and ready to go. It was beyond helpful having Layla and Emma around for help because they were both efficient and thorough.
Leaving Layla in the room with the boys, she made her way back to the room where her best friend was. She figured she was leaving the men in good, capable hands, especially as that woman had been dealing with the majority of them for years and years. Bailey couldn't quite wrap her head around it. She opened the door to the room where Halley was and was struck by the view of her best friend in her dress. Tears immediately threatened to spring to her eyes, but she forced them back as best she could. Bai bit down on her red lip and took a deep breath before wrapping her arms tight around her best friend.
"You look incredible. However, I do have the best waterproof makeup I could find. Not that you need it, but in case you wanted it." And within moments she was back to business. "Mrs. Adams is taking care of the men and wrangling them so I'm all yours now," She grinned."
when did you start to forget how to fly?

Halley couldn't help but laugh when Bailey mentioned the waterproof makeup and when she heard her call Layla Mrs. Adams, she and Emma shared a look and laughed.
"You're going to have to learn to call her Mom." Emma stated as Halley nodded. "I mean you're as much part of the family now as Halley is. I won't be surprised if Layla already has your personal details to send you Christmas cards and get sweaters that are both ugly and fit you like a glove."
The blonde laughed and grabbed a tissue to dab at her eyes. "Okay," Halley turned to look at the mirror and she assessed her look. "I can't believe I'm getting married in ten minutes time. Oh God, do I look okay?" She asked as her hand moved to rearrange her hair before Emma smacked her hand and shook her head. "You look perfect, Hal."
The door burst open and Nora and Leah stumbled in, giggling. Leah was in a light lavender dress with a tulle skirt, holding the basket filled with flower petals. She dropped a few as she made her way to her mother. "Aunty Halley looks like an angel." Leah whispered to Emma who nodded. "Yes she does."
Halley heard and she started to cry again. "Shoot...Bai help." She said in between sobs.

Ethan watched as one of his best friends got into his suit as he sat on Nick's bed, surrounded by his childhood at every corner. Wyatt came over and asked Ethan to help him with his suspenders. "Why do I have to wear these, Papa?" he grumbled.
"Wy, you have a habit of dropping your pants at the most inconvenient times now. At least we're not strapping you in a straitjacket so you don't have access to your pants at all." Ethan snorted and Wyatt rolled his clear blue eyes. "Fine."
The private contractor run his fingers through Wyatt's unruly hair and smiled. "You're the cutest ring-bearer anyone will see."
Wyatt sighed. "Uncle Nick," he whined. "Papa's doing that mushy thing again."

The Words
An Open Heart is an open wound to you
Bailey was thoroughly embarrassed as they laughed about her calling Layla Mrs. Adams, but it was just the polite thing to do. She'd known Nick's family for a short while and she wasn't the one being married into it. Although, she supposed that by being best friends with the bride she sort of was being married into it. Especially given the bromance that Gabriel had been adopted into. She liked being part of the group along with Emma and Faith. Their counterparts were equally as ridiculous as her own.
She was also grateful that Emma was assertive because she wasn't letting Halley fuss over everything the way she typically did. Both of them were quite terrible at having things out of their hands. Emma was very capable though and Bailey felt comfortable releasing the reins a bit to her. When the two younger girls entered the room, they both flocked to Emma's side and Bailey could understand why. The woman just had this incredible vibe about her that sucked everyone in.
Nora leaned against Emma, but her eyes were on Halley and she couldn't help grin widely, "You've got really great hair, Halley. Like, props to those genetics."
Bailey snorted out a laugh and covered her mouth before Halley came rushing to her in tears. She placed her hands on her best friend's shoulders and smiled, "You've got nothing to worry about, love. You look incredible and he's going to be sobbing just as much as you are. Pinkie promise. Now straighten up as much as you can because we're on in a few. Leah, Nora, you girls ready?"
--
Nick felt like his chest was going to explode. He was getting nervous, not in the way of cold feet, but just in the way of forgetting something important. What if he forgot how to talk? It wouldn't be completely crazy given the fact that he barely spoke as a child, but he didn't want to worry Halley by not saying anything. He also didn't want to throw up while he waited for her to walk down the aisle. He was fussing over his tie, frustrated because his hands were sweating. If it weren't for Elliot leaning against the wall and Ethan sitting on his bed, he may have actually passed out from worrying.
It also helped having Layla and Bailey peaking in on them every couple of minutes. He ran his fingers through his hair and glanced back at his best friend and his nephew (for all intents and purposes). Laughing at the complaint from little man, he let out a groan, "Jeeze, Eth, get it together dude." Nick gave him a grin and shoved his hands in his pockets, "Is it normal to feel this panicky? Like, I feel like I'm dying right now." He pulled the collar away from his neck and took a deep breath.
Elliot pushed himself away from the wall and went to sit beside Ethan and Wyatt, "Nick, you're gonna be fine. Halley is awesome and you're gonna be happy as hell once the initial ceremony is over. That's the hardest part."
Nick turned to Ethan with raised eyebrows, "You'd tell me if this was a bad sign right?"

Ethan couldn't help but snort at Wyatt complaining about him to his best friend and he rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I'm the one who needs to get it together." He pulled Wyatt up into his lap and gave him a raspberry kiss on his neck. His son wriggled out of his reach and squealed. "Let me goooo!" Wyatt giggled and smacked his father's cheeks along the way before running out of the room, leaving the three men.
Elliot's words got a series of nods from Ethan before laughing at Nick's question.
"I'm divorced, buddy. I stopped believing in signs a long time ago. But come on, Nick. This is a long time coming. Nothing would matter the moment you see her walking towards you down the aisle. I promise."
The door was knocked and Gabriel came in with Wyatt in hand. "Found this one harassing the caterers for some lollipops and your dad's asking you to come down, Nick."
Ethan chuckled and went to grab Wyatt, hoisting him up his shoulders and looking back to Nick. "Come on buddy. It's show time.

Once she was sure she was composed enough, Halley grabbed the bouquet of light coloured lilies and turned to her girls and smiled. "I don't know how much more I can thank you guys."
Emma wiped away a stray tear and she nodded. "You can promise to take care of my best friend." She smiled through her tears. Halley took a deep breath through her nose and laughed at how silly she was being, crying over the smallest thing. "I can do that."
Another knock came at the door and Halley turned to find her father standing by the door. Another rush of emotion surged through Halley but she maintained her composure because she knew if she started crying, then her father was going to start crying and then there would be no stopping. "Hey dad." She smiled, to which Mark responded with a nod and a smile. "Ready, sweetheart?"
Halley nodded and slipped her hand through her father's as Emma rushed the rest out of the door.

The Words
An Open Heart is an open wound to you
Nick nodded as an answer to his best friends. One was divorced, the other widowed, he hoped that meant his odds were better. It seemed likely given that he was marrying Halley, but even so, the sickening twist in his stomach hadn't gone away yet. Marriage was a big step, a step that his own parents hadn't even taken. But he thought of Bert and Gerty, he thought of his grandparents. Even though his parents hadn't done the ceremonious thing, he still saw them as a unit. And he saw himself and Halley in them, a team, soulmates, whatever he wanted to call it.
With a deep breath as Gabriel mentioned that Patch was asking for him, Nick looked at his two best friends and swallowed hard, "Alright. Lets do the damn thing." He gave a nod and started out the door, Elliot following behind him with his hand on his shoulder. Nick glanced back at him and then forward at the other two, "Can't wait to see who ends up being next." There was just no way that any of the guys would get away without marrying the women they were currently with. And he couldn't wait to partake in those weddings. Much less stressful than his own was.
Once they made it out the door, Nick found Patch with his little brother standing beside him. He made his way over and ruffled his brother's hair before giving his dad a hug, "Try not to cry too much, yeah?"
--
For fear of her own tears falling, Bailey kept her mouth shut rather than going into depth about how happy she was to be part of her best friend's wedding. She knew that Halley missed her mom and she wished for nothing more than her to be there. Instead, she tried to be the best substitute that she could as a support system and she kept her emotions in tact for Halley's sake. There was more than enough tears filling the room and she knew that there were bound to be many more as the ceremony went on.
Bailey held both of the younger girls by the hand as they made their way out to get ready for lining up. She fixed their hair, adjusted their straps and once they were settled, she smoothed her own dress down and handed Halley her bouquet, "Lookin' good ladies and gent. We ready to get this wedding rolling?"

And though it's just a line to you

The idea of marrying Faith had been at the back of Ethan's mind as of late. Although he wasn't entirely sure if he should even broach the subject due to both their previous failed attempts. They were happy where they were right now and he didn't want to screw things up. But Wyatt had been nagging about it and he knew sooner or later, he would relent to his son but for now, he didn't want to scare Faith off because he genuinely liked having her around.
He decided to play it off and smacking Nick up the back of his head. "Concentrate on your own, please and thank you."
He took his place by Patch's side once they were downstairs and smiled at the bond Nick and his dad had. It was definitely a shot to the heart considering he hadn't ever met his own dad. But Patch had been a really good substitute through the years and Ethan appreciated having their patchwork family.
Patch returned the hug, placing a kiss against Nick's jaw before turning to look at Layla who was sitting at the front. "No promises buddy." He responded, smoothing down the front of his shirt and took his place underneath the arch. "Look alive people," Patch announced as Leah and Wyatt made their way down the petal strewn aisle, followed by the ladies.
--
Mark slid a hand around his daughter's waist and squeezed lightly. "I don't know if I'm ready to let you go, pumpkin."
Halley let out a shaky breath as she tried to keep her cool at his words. "Dad, you're gonna ruin my makeup." She tried to laugh as her entourage made their way out. She turned and gave her father a tight squeeze before turning back to where she was going to see her soon to be husband.
Her heart was ramming against her ribcage as she let her dad lead the way. "You're not letting me go, Dad. I won't let you." She said as they started to walk. The soft music playing in the background soothed her nerves somewhat before she caught sight of Nick. She almost stopped moving if it weren't for her father pulling her along. "Oh God...he's so handsome." She whispered with a small chuckle to which Mark squeezed her hand. "You make a good pair, beautiful girl."
They continued to walk and once they were finally in front of Nick and Patch, Mark pulled her arm out from his and grabbed Nick's hand to lay it on top of hers. "I'm trusting you, Nick." He said softly and Halley could see a smile on his face before he walked over to sit beside Layla.
Halley looked up at Nick and just like that, nothing else mattered.
And never seemed so right before

The Words
An Open Heart is an open wound to you
Hearing the music and watching as the two youngest members of the clan made their way down the aisle, Nick could feel his heart in his throat. He was practically choking on his own anxiety and excitement, but he tried to swallow it back and focus on the faces of everyone that mattered to him that were they to support the two of them. He glanced at his boys, thankful for the fact that he'd grown up with two amazing guys that had stuck by him through everything. If it hadn't been for them, he wondered what kind of person he'd have been. He looked at his newest friend, Gabriel, grateful that he'd been such a helpful hand with everything and happy that Halley's best friend had someone as good as he was. He looked at his brother and found that he couldn't wait for the same moment when his time came to marry the girl of his dreams. He watched his best friend take her place where she'd stand beside the love of his life. And the last thing he looked at were his parents, the only people in the world that he could never repay for all they'd done for him.
By the time his eyes moved back to the aisle, they'd already started filling with tears. However, when his eyes fell on Halley, he placed his hand over his mouth and the tears started falling from him eyes. Here he'd been worried about Patch, and he could only smile at the thought that his father had rubbed off on him so much. Before he'd been watching everyone else, but now, as everyone was looking at her, he could hardly peel his eyes away to see if they all had the same dumbfounded expression on their faces that he was sure he did.
Once they made it down the aisle, Nick wiped at his eyes and cleared his throat. Instead of attempting at words for her father, he just nodded firmly and took Halley's hand. Nick sniffled and led her under the altar, his hand adding a little pressure to hers. "You look amazing," He whispered before the ceremony began. More than ever he just wished he could fast forward through the words so that he could kiss her and have her officially be his.

Mark had to prop Halley up as they walked down the aisle and when he passed her to Nick, Halley could feel the hesitance in her father's grip. All she did was smile at him and nod before her eyes rested on Nick. His words, though simple, took her breath away and she had to wipe away an errant tear.
Patch spared them both with his short but sweet speech about love and after they exchanged their vows and rings, Halley finally got to kiss her husband. The relief she felt as they shared their first matrimonial act was insurmountable.
Everyone cleared the space for the reception and ended up in the house. Some of their guests had to leave early and the ones who stayed ended up helping out with setting the tables and the food. Nick and Halley were in his room just lying in his childhood bed. "I can't believe it." Halley chuckled, pulling his hand and kissing the wedding band on his finger. "You're my husband."

The Words
An Open Heart is an open wound to you
The ceremony was over in record time, thanks in large part to his dad. He hadn't been able to keep his eyes off of Halley as the words were spoken between them. He was awestruck by the fact that she was going to be his for the rest of their lives together and vice versa. Once the vows were said, more tears were spilt and the kiss happened, Nick felt lighter. All of his anxiety and panic had managed to wash away as he held her hand and slid the ring onto her finger. It was such a natural feeling.
While the reception was getting set up, he'd stolen Halley away up to his bedroom and he fell back on his bed, pulling her along with him. Nick loosened the tie around his neck and took a deep breath. With the pressures of the ceremony over, he was happy that for the next half of the day he would get to enjoy the company of his friends and family while never needing to part from his wife. They were a package deal now and forever.
Turning his head to the side, he grinned, "Yeeeup, you're officially and legally stuck with me forever now. No getting rid of me." He rolled over so he could kiss her and he smiled, "What were you thinking?"

"Oh no, what have I done? What was I thinking?" She slapped her hands to her cheeks and gasped exaggeratedly. The feel of her ring made her put her hand up so she could look at it as she kissed her husband back. "My life is over." She said with a snort as she rolled on top of Nick, resting her chin on her folded hands. "Whatever do I do?"
She was slowly falling off Nick because of the dress and she laughed. "Should I change? I feel like I should change into something more comfortable." She said before rolling off him and standing up, placing her hands on her hips. She looked down and wriggled her eyebrows at Nick. "I wonder what my husband thinks. What do you think, husband?" She chuckled with a child-like grin on her face.

The Words
An Open Heart is an open wound to you
Rolling over on his back, he rested one of his hands on her lower back while the other arm went beneath his head. Nick cocked his eyebrow and frowned, "You weren't supposed to roll with it for that long, Hal. I'm hurt." After a few moments of remaining serious, he cracked into a grin and rolled his eyes.
As she slid off of him, he turned his head and watched as she stood up. His other arm folded under his head and he contemplated her question. He couldn't say that he'd blame her for wanting to change. The dress was massive and he wasn't fond of the monkey suit he was in either. His uniform was more comfortable. Nick's smile matched hers and he pursed his lips, "I mean, if it were up to me, the reception would be for guests only, we could start the honey moon thing early. But I'm afraid that one of my parents would come looking. Or Ethan...Or Emma. They're all assholes so, I wouldn't put it past any of them."
Nick propped himself up on his elbows and shrugged, "Changing would make the dancing thing easier. I'm pretty sure I'd step on the dress and I'm already worried about stepping on your feet."

She grinned through his serious face and chuckled when he finally smiled. "I couldn't help it. You asked!" She giggled.
Halley watched as he mulled over his answer and when he finally did, she blushed before snorting when he continued mentioning her now family. Her actual legally bound family. Her heart was filled with joy at the thought before nodding at his thought. "We practiced though, so you have nothing to worry about." She nodded before turning her back to Nick. "Could you unzip me?" She asked, looking over her shoulder.
Nick may have mentioned having an early honeymoon but Halley just wanted to get out of the dress so she could get into something less heavy. Although the thought did cross her mind, she would rather build up the tension so their honeymoon would be that much more special. She knew Nick wouldn't want to jump in the sack so fast either so it worked out.

"We practiced, but I'm still a fumbling klutz," Nick grinned and sat up fully before standing up and moving behind her. His hand swept back a few strands of hair and he pressed his lips to her shoulder while his hands moved to the zipper on her back. Sliding it down swiftly, he kissed the top of her head and went back to sit on the edge of his bed.
He wasn't in any hurry to start the honey moon, he had the rest of his life to spend with her. The reception had been put together by his parents and he was grateful to them for all they'd done, it was the least he could do to show up to his own reception. Nick tilted his head as he watched her change and he finally decided to yank off his tie and unbutton the top button so that he could breathe a little easier.
Letting out a relieved sigh, he rubbed his neck, "I don't know how people wear these things every day for work. I couldn't do it."

Halley simply scrunched her nose at Nick's self deprecation. It was something they had in common but Nick was a lot less inclined to let her indulge in hers. But she didn't dwell on that, instead, she closed her eyes when he swept her hair to the side and unzipped the dress. It was such a simple gesture but it held an intimacy she delighted in.
She reached one hand around to scratch his head affectionately before stepping out of the dress, breathing out a sigh of relief. She pulled the dress up and grabbed a hanger to hang the dress in his closet. She noted how ridiculous it looked against the backdrop of his childhood but she thought it would look good photographed so she admired it for a moment before sliding one of his t-shirts over her lingerie and padding over to his bed, kissing him on the cheek.
"I'm glad I don't have to wear things like that every day either. I'm also equally glad I rock my scrubs." She went to his mirror and took out the pins holding her hair together, running her fingers through them. "Babe...can you come here and take a picture with me?" She asked, looking at him through the mirror.
