With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
Will choosing to eat at that moment had Cassidy sobbing quietly as her grip on the spoon tightened, making dents in her hand. She couldn't help but get more emotional as a million thoughts ran through her head. Will avoiding things was so not good for her anxiety. She tried to keep her breathing in check.
And somehow, the moment Will had his cold hands wrapped around hers, everything just melted away. All her anxieties and her anger and sadness, they became secondary. Even as he spoke, all she could feel from him and herself was love. It was completely unfair that Will had such a hold on her but she honestly wouldn't have it any other way.
She was fighting the urge to argue with Will because he sounded so tired. She hated the way that he seemed to be falling apart even more these days and it scared her. She knew it wasn't good for her and the baby but it just was the way it was.
She did want to tell him that Gabe was going to be here anyway. He wouldn't have come if he was also ready to reconcile. Bailey had persuasion as a superpower but even she would have had a time convincing Gabe if he didn't want to come. He clearly did. Which meant Will factored largely in his decision to come.
She closed her eyes when his hand moved up to her cheek. Her tears still ran because even this small gesture of having his forehead against hers made her want to keel over. "I'm sorry Will. I hate that I caused this. Me going behind your back...I just..." she gnawed on her bottom lip and continue to sob quietly. "I'm so sorry."

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
The tears that forced themselves from her eyes caused his chest to ache. It didn't matter if her hormones were to blame or not, tears were something that pulled at his heartstrings every time they came from the woman he loved. It broke his heart when he couldn't stop them and he'd been trying so hard for the last few weeks to keep them at bay as often as he could. All he wanted was for her to be smiling and laughing and feel completely loved because she was.
He knew that he should have just caved to what she wanted to spare them both the argument and the hurt feelings. Now he just wished he could swallow his pride and get over the way things went down, but it wasn't that simple. Will's fingers curled around her hair and he wished desperately that he could just say the right thing for once in his life. Why did he never think before he spoke?
"Angel, no. Please don't. You didn't do anything wrong, my love," Will pulled her in closer, sliding out of the chair so he could envelope his arms around her. The fact that she blamed herself for how things turned out killed him. Sure, it could be argued that not warning him had led to him feeling cornered and attacked and even a little betrayed, but he'd been so terrible about the news at first. He couldn't blame her for seeking comfort in someone who knew him better than he knew himself. If things had been reversed, if Cassidy had reacted poorly to news that was meant to be happy, he might have sought out Adrian regardless of her hatred towards him.
He buried his face in her hair and his arms, weak as they were, wrapped around her tight, "It's my fault, I never should have reacted that way when you told me. You were just looking for someone who could break through my stubborn skull. I don't fault you for that at all, Angel. I promise."

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
The sheer comfort and warmth coming from Will at that moment made her burst into more tears as she buried her face in his shirt, soaking it through as she softly apologised, even though he told her not to. He may think that it wasn't her fault but she knew it was. But she panicked and a panicked Cassidy didn't think straight.
She pulled him closer, wrapping her arms around his smaller frame. Her worry about him being sick all the time had her in even more tears. She was uncontrollably sobbing by the time he reassured her that it wasn't her fault. She couldn't do this. She couldn't see the man she practically worshipped wasting away and not being with his friend and it was killing her.
Cassidy pushed him away, her face contorted in anguish with her eyes and nose red and puffy, tears streaming down her reddened cheeks. "What's going on Will?" She asked between sobs. "I don't want to fight. I really don't but I have to know. You being sick, you being tired, this pushing people away." She stopped when she started not being able to breathe. She tried to calm herself down but the more she thought about it, the more it made her question everything.
"What's going on Will, please tell me." She begged him, her hands gripping his shirt.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
All he could do while she cried harder was wrap his arms around her tighter. He felt so helpless because every time he told her everything would be okay he was lying through his teeth. Their lives were falling apart bit by bit and he knew that she was beginning to see it, too. Will had been trying to keep her calm, to keep her happy because stressing her out wasn't going to be good for any of them. There was only so much he could do though before it became too much for either of them.
He just hadn't been expecting it to hit so hard and so fast.
She pushed him away and the immediate change in temperature from her warmth to the absence of it struck him hard. The love of his life stood in front of him, a mess of worry and stress and tears. She could barely get the words out between sobs and all he could do was stand there and take it. She didn't want to fight, he didn't want to upset her. But that was the problem - they couldn't just have what they wanted. His arms dropped back down to his sides, he didn't feel any anger flare up, but the exhaustion of the situation was dragging him down. He wanted to be able to soothe her mind, tell her that she was overthinking things and that it was just a virus that hit him harder than they'd initially expected, but the lie wouldn't pass his lips.
Cassidy's fingers wrapped around the front of his shirt and he looked at her with a lifeless stare. Somewhere deep down he was crumbling, but he had to keep upright. He couldn't just collapse in front of her the way he wanted to. He couldn't give up and he was trying so hard not to, but it was getting harder every day that things got worse. "I'm sick, Cas. I was sick when we met up at the hospital, things got better and now they're getting much worse. There's only so much that I can do about it and if things don't turn around..." He lifted his shoulder up and let it fall back down. It was a half-truth, but it was something. There was still that slight chance of hope at least with what he told her instead of giving her the facts that he wasn't going to have a long life with her or their baby.

With my feelings on fire
Guess I'm a bad liar
She had waited for quite some time for an explanation from her love and although she knew to some degree what it was, she wasn't prepared for it all the same. It sobered her up pretty quick and although the tears were still streaming down her face, there was no longer any sound coming from her.
Her body was still reacting to her crying so there were hiccups but she was quiet as her eyes trained on the hands curled around Will's shirt. Her lip trembled as she tried to form the words to say. All she wanted to do was comfort the man she craved. But nothing came.
She finally looked up into the eyes she had so hopelessly fallen in love with and nothing came still. Her hands dropped down to his waist and her forehead dropped down to his chest. She tried to breathe, to calm down, but it didn't stop the tears. All she could think about was that Will was telling her that he was dying. Or at least it sounded like it. How in the hell does anybody react to that?
Food completely ignored for now, Cassidy slid one hand back into Will's before she tugged him with her, heading towards the bedroom they had been sharing the past year. She pulled him down with her after she climbed in. She still clung to his hand as she laid down, pulling it up to her lips as she turned on her side, waiting for him to look at her.
And still no words came.
She pressed her lips against his forehead, longer than she anticipated before leaning her own forehead against his.
