The dead, but never mourned As it was to be expected, the Lit project had been a breeze. Granted there had been some bumps in the road, but he'd learned what he needed to in order to find a fitting excerpt to describe his counterpart just as she had found one that suited him. Well, it had suited what he'd let her see. Of course he had given her a high mark on the excerpt she'd chosen, after all it didn't do him any good to say she'd done a bad job when he wasn't going to allow her to know him better than what was on the surface. Besides, he had hoped that she would be equally as forgiving of the poem he'd chosen for her since he could only imagine she hadn't given him everything either. Only a few weeks wasn't enough to truly know someone inside and out. Factor in the stubbornness that they both had of keeping themselves hidden and it had been even harder than the rest. Still, he felt as accomplished as he could for not losing it on her or prodding her to snap at him.
Small victories.
William stood from the chair in the classroom and heaved his book bag over his shoulder. What would he do to celebrate the A he had received? He'd been on good behavior for quite some time and it didn't bode well for his beast. The irritability had been building inside him with every bitten tongue and repressed comment. The thought of continuing it any longer made him ill and he decided he'd do what he did best - drink and pick a fight. There were probably dozens of better things he could be doing, and yet, none of them had the appeal of his rage coming out in a drunken brawl. Except for perhaps shifting and being set loose on a pack of preteens, but he figured that was just the beast's thinking. He wasn't out to hurt anyone other than himself. Physically anyway.
Upon walking towards the door, he felt his shoulder brush against that of his project partner. He glanced down at her and he realized that before he might have offered a small smile, or even a nod in acknowledgement, but now, after weeks of reining in all of his frustration towards himself for actually liking her, all he could do was shove past her and out the door. Of course he hoped that she'd confront him for it. He could feel his heart stutter in anticipation of hearing her light footsteps behind him, stomping, but with no real force. Maybe that was why he didn't storm off as quickly as he might have otherwise. If he was going to start a fight, maybe she was the one he needed to start with.
Anything to rid himself of these ridiculous thoughts of warmth towards her.

Everything had gone wrong that morning. Cassidy had slept through her alarm, resulting in missing her first class and running late for her second. And then she got a salad dumped all over her, staining her very white top and getting honey mustard in her hair. To top it all off, she forgot her presentation for her last class of the day and ended up getting a bad grade for that. Luckily enough there, she managed to convince her professor to do extra credit that could help her overall grade for the class.
That could have been her turn around for the day but then some asshole bumped into her, sending her books and her bag crashing to the floor.
"Damn it!" She hissed before scooping up her things and rushing towards the offending asshole. "The least you could do is ap-" her sentence was cut short when she realised that it was Will Spencer. "Oh, figures. Biggest asshole on campus wouldn't be caught dead being a decent human being, would he." She snarled, adjusting her books in her arms.

The dead, but never mourned William had heard all of her things clatter to the floor, in fact, he'd lingered just a bit longer than he might have otherwise to be sure it happened. The little things were what really made the difference. Especially all of the little things that could add up. It even brought the slightest smirk to his lips, which he knew if it remained would only goad her further into unleashing what little wrath she could possess. She tried for fear antics, losing her wits and resorting to name-calling. It worked on most, but with Will, there wasn't any name she could come up with that would even begin to describe what he felt towards himself. This little girl had no idea how deep his own self-hatred ran. Her insults only brushed the very surface.
As she rushed towards him, he stopped in his tracks. Of course if he was in one of the moods where he knew he should get away, he would have. He'd have out-strode her easily with his long gait compared to her tiny little steps. But he was looking for a fight and she seemed to be more than willing to give him what he sought. He looked down at her, the fierceness in her eyes only egging him on. She had clearly had a rough day by the looks of her appearance. Not quite so put together as she usually was.
"Well, Princess, the only time I'd be caught dead showing any kind of decency is for a high mark in a class that I enjoy. Mission accomplished. I got my A, therefore, you're correct. The very thought of decency provokes my gag reflex," He gave her a quick once over and pursed his lips. "Quick question, not to get off topic, but, did you realize that you've got a little bit of shmootz right there on your shirt? I've heard that the way you dress and appear reflects your grades. And well, you look a mess, luv."

"Regular bad boy." She rolled her eyes and sneered. His insult about her appearance made her roll her eyes once more as she shifted her weight on to her other leg. "A sight better than you do, love." She retorted.
She then realised that she could be doing ten hundred better things than to stand the abuse being hurled at her. She was tired, cranky and hungry and all she wanted to do was sink into a comfortable armchair with a slice of pizza and a hot cocoa. Not berating an insanely good-looking asshole.
"Listen, if you have nothing better to do with your life than to insult how I look, don't drag me down with you. Unlike you, I work hard for my grades." She lifted her shoulders once and let it fall before pushing past him, making sure he felt her bumping into him. It didn't help, however, that she caught a whiff of him, which put a small smile on her face.
Wow, where the hell did that come from.

The DEAD, but NEVER mourned Will remained easy in his posture, she was grasping at anything to make herself feel tough when she was at peak vulnerability. The perfect time for him to just let loose on her was now because then maybe, just maybe he'd make out of this without her ever coming near him again unless she was provoked. She tried, he could really see that she tried hard not to let what he said get to her, and to be frank he didn't think his remarks had, but his smirk did. His general pompous attitude did. The more irked she got by even his mannerisms, the better it would be for both of them.
"And yet, here you are. Y'know most of the time someone is having a bad day, and they're being provoked, they know better than to stick around and continue to be provoked. Lets face it, Princess, you coming over here wasn't my doing. You just were looking for some semblance of the man you'd been working with for the past few weeks." Will shrugged his shoulders and tilted his head to the side slightly before looking at her, "It'll be better for the both of us if you just get it through your head right now that I only was nice because I had to be. Not because you and I could ever be friends." Or anything further than that, he added to himself.
Of course over the couple of weeks they'd been together he found it easy for him to sort of drop the barriers around him, but whenever that feeling rose, he made himself sick thinking about it. She was a pretty face, but her pretty face wasn't for him to notice.
Her last comment made him laugh, "Well not all of us can be graced with brains and beauty, it's been fun, luv. Let's not do it again though, yeah?" He called after her, but not before noting the smile that touched her lips when she bumped into him. Will became caught off guard by the sight because he didn't quite know what it meant. Before she could completely get away, he snagged her arm, "What the hell are you smiling about?" He could feel his inner beast snarling, and he knew just then that his grip on her arm would have been much harder than he intended, so he dropped it quickly and took a step back. "I'm uh...sorry. I've...I..." He stammered with each step backwards as he stared at the fingerprints that were red on her arm. Will couldn't look anymore and he tried to make his own getaway.

When Will grabbed her arm, Cassidy's first instinct was to grab his wrist and twist it away from her. Whether it hurt him or not was left to be seen. She frowned when he asked about her smile. As he backed away, she raised an eyebrow.
"Are you seeing things, sweetheart? Might need to get your eyesight checked. Who in their right mind would smile at a curmudgeon like you?" She asked with a sneer. "Besides, what is it to you if I did smile?"

The dead, but never mourned While his eyes remained locked on her arm, the words she spoke sparked him enough to tear them away and move back to her eyes. Was she really trying to get him with the nicknames the way he used them on her? Will didn't quite mind it, not as much as she seemed to, but he didn't like the way she was challenging him. He could feel his heartbeat quickening with the beast clawing inside, snapping its jaws from inside his mind. If he turned, he knew he would hurt her far worse than he would ever mean to.
But he wouldn't. He wouldn't turn.
Will's muscles tensed all the way up his arms as he clenched his fist. "It's nothing to me. Just like you're nothing to me. Nothing but an obnoxious, snobby little brat. Stay the fuck out of my way next time and we won't have this altercation again." He could feel himself start to tremble and he knew he needed to make his getaway fast. But he lingered because he wanted to keep hurting her. He wanted to make sure she never came near him again. "Do yourself a favor and stop trying with me. We're not friends, we were never friends, I was nice to you because I had to be and now it's over." With that he turned on his heel and headed in the direction of the nearest exit.

The way Will's body seemed to react made Cassidy both frightened and even more obstinate to stand her ground. It was frustrating that she didn't want him to win yet at the same time, she wanted to give in.
This was not what she saw in him while they were working together. No matter what he tried to say, he hadn't been nice to her for the sake of the grade. She saw something in him that she knew was the real him and she was determined now more than ever to force it out of him.
When he started to leave, she laughed derisively. "I don't believe it. Will Spencer is actually running away from something." She called out, her grip on her books tightening as she steeled herself for the onslaught that was bound to come from Will.
"Next time, try to sound more convincing when you insult someone. You just sound like a little child who's trying to hurt someone for taking away their toy before bedtime."

The dead, but never mourned Will had let his guard down for a split second, and what did it get him? Some little wench that wouldn't let it go. Who had to make everyone like her and not leave anyone to want nothing to do with her. He watched the way her eyes widened just the tiniest bit, but yet they remained as stubborn as ever and he wasn't sure he'd ever get through her thick skull that he was dangerous. Not unless he took drastic measures and he wasn't sure he had enough control for a thing like that.
But she kept pushing him and pushing his self-control to the breaking point. He knew that if he didn't get away, someone was going to get hurt and he'd make damn sure it wasn't her. Of course she was the one who deserved it for goading him the way that she was, the way that he had been doing to her. But she couldn't hurt him the same way. She was so much smaller than him. If he turned, she would be disgusted by what he could do to someone.
Her words hit his back and he stopped. His whole body was tensed for him to lunge or change or just to collapse on the ground. Will was certain his knees would buckle at any moment just from how much he was holding himself back. He could only force the monster inside back for so long. While he knew he should have just kept walking, he should have just let it be, he knew he wasn't that kind of person. And for her to think there was ever anything more than his hatred towards her, he knew he needed to squash that thought in her head. He turned around and made two strides before he was standing nose to nose with her, "Stay the fuck away from me. Or you're going to get hurt." His voice was low, but the snarl that laid beneath it was very real. At this point his whole body was vibrating, just waiting for him to unleash his beast.
Will shoved past her quickly and finally ran towards the exit.
