When he pulled her closer, she found herself smiling. His lips were about as warm on her forehead as his hand had been on her waist. She wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled her nose against his neck, "I'm only boring because you woke me up too early."

But at the mention of Nick finding out about her playing hooky, she looked up at him, "You wouldn't. You're not gonna tell him, right? Please Patchy." Layla batted her eyelashes and stuck her lower lip out in a pout.

Nick would be mad, and then she'd have to explain why she as a parent got to skip work while she forced him to go regularly. Not forced, it was actually more of a gentle nudge in the right direction. She'd skipped school so much before getting pregnant and it had screwed her afterwards because she had gotten so behind. It was difficult being a responsible parent when she'd been kind of crappy at being a responsible student.

"I'll take a full serving of Patch and more sleep over a side with promised waffles. You, my dear, should know this by now," She shrugged and pecked him on the cheek. He laughed and she scrunched her nose, "Don't you mess with me, I've still got you pinned and I'm not afraid to use that to my advantage."

Layla scooted closer and traced patterns with her finger on his chest. The memory he pulled from his brain made her laugh and bury her face in his chest to muffle her snort, "Oh my gosh, I will never forget that. God, how did our kid turn out to be a good student when his examples were little shits growing up?" She didn't even hesitate anymore calling Nick Patch's kid. Their kid. She remembered the way she'd reacted when Riley had the guts to say Nick was theirs, but Riley was a phantom in Nicholas' life. Patch had more of a right to him than any other man ever would to Layla.

"I wonder what would have happened if one of us had been a good kid," She mumbled against his chest. It wasn't something she liked to picture. A life without Patch wouldn't have been a life she'd consider living.

"You're so right," Layla had relied heavily on Patch's parents as well as her former employer back when she was sixteen and had no idea what she was doing. Gerty was the best boss a pregnant sixteen year old could ask for. She'd given her support and cut her slack that she hadn't even known she needed. Not everybody got to bring their baby to their job. But both Bert and Gerty had always loved babysitting for her when Patch's parents couldn't.

"Did Nicky tell you about Bert bringing out his fifty year old condom? The sex talk with Bert, can you imagine? Especially after having it already," Layla giggled and snorted. She couldn't possibly imagine having that conversation. Or being there while it took place. Layla imagined the three stooges all sitting, gathered around Bert and cringing when he pulled out the dusty rubber.

His arms tightened around her and she breathed him in. That was one thing that she could be certain of, Patch's reassurance. He'd never let her down when it came to supporting her and making her know that he was there no matter what. Layla nodded against his chest and looked up at him, "I love you, too, Patchy. More than anything." She smiled and rested her cheek back on his arm, "Even when you're a massive pain in my ass."

"Ethan is no worse for Nicholas than we are, Patch. He's a good friend just like Elliot is. I'm glad he's got his boys," Because only having Emma in his life, vicious as she could be, was not going to help him much. He was already a momma's boy, the last thing she wanted was to permanently emasculate him with only having female friends. Boys would be boys, rowdy and reckless. She worried about him, sure, but she couldn't see anything wrong with either of his friends.

Just as her eyes were about to shut again, she felt him adjust his position and she looked up at him when he turned towards her. His other hand cupped her cheek and she almost expected him to just let her sleep, stroke her hair, ease her mind. But what actually happened was something that deep deep down she'd always waited for to happen.

His lips brushed hers and she could feel her whole body filling up like a balloon. She thought she might burst. Layla placed her hand on the side of his neck and added a bit more pressure to the kiss before pulling back and laughing, "Well, it's about time that happened. You're about as good of a kisser as I expected."

Layla snorted, "As if you haven't been thinking about what it would be like since we've known each other!" She couldn't have possibly imagined it feeling quite as comfortable as it did, even though she knew she shouldn't have been surprised. It was Patch, everything with him was surprisingly easy and comfortable. His kiss was no different. She smiled against his lips, taking comfort in the fact that their world wouldn't even change that much.

It was the natural progression of things. Best friends forever, assuming the dad position for her son, living together, what else did they expect to happen? By no means did she automatically assume things would be perfect. It wasn't now and it wouldn't be just because they finally did something about the obvious unspoken feelings between each other. And yet, it was more perfect than she had ever expected from her life.

He broke the kiss and she laughed again, "Oh god. You're right. What are the odds that we just kiss in front of him and he barely notices? I mean, it's not so farfetched for us to do that kind of thing." She nuzzled his cheek and slid her arms around his neck, rolling over so that she was laying on top of him. "You know, you basically opened the floodgates of love right? I mean, I'm already more affectionate with you than anybody else. And that was before you kissed me." She folded her arms under her chin, resting on his chest so that she could look up at him.

Layla pursed her lips at the thought of Nicholas freaking out about them holding hands or hugging or just being them in general. She could understand why he was so in tune to the way they acted towards each other, but she'd never quite been able to explain what held her back. "That's kind of true, maybe that's how we tell him. Just hug me for a really long time and it'll click in his overactive brain."

She was well aware that he got that overactive brain from her.

His reaction made her narrow her eyes at him and she gave him the finger before resting her chin back on her hands. It was probably a good thing that she was not entirely awkward or shy because otherwise she'd have been red in the face and given away exactly what she was thinking. Instead, she returned his smirk and waggled her eyebrows before laughing, "Perv." He kissed her again and she slid her hands up his neck and into his hair. She pulled back and shook her head, "What makes you think I'm that easy?" Of course, she was joking. It was Patch, if there was anyone she hadn't been easy with, it was him. They'd lived together for years even before this and not once had they slipped up.

Layla gave him a small smirk before pecking his lips again, "But I am looking forward to lots of cuddling and warmth and deep meaningful conversation." She laughed again, barely able to get the last few words out. "I can't get over this."
