She knew she should have stopped it when it started, but in her defense, she was weak. Only when it came to him. He could say anything and make it sound good which was completely unfair. Instead of stopping it, she just let it happen. She'd been starved of attention since he left. Although it had been her choice to ignore men altogether even when she was set up on dates. Nobody quite compared to him. "You say that now," She mumbled against his chest.
He asked where she was headed and she bit her lip, "Er, home. I just got done with work and had some errands to run." She glanced down at her apparel and scrunched her nose. Bailey loved scrubs, she really did, but they were not all that sexy on girls. Guys could rock the heck out of some scrubs, but she just figured it had to do with them being all muscly. She frowned, "Wish I woulda stopped home to change first." Because then she wouldn't have looked quite as ridiculous as she felt.

Gabriel decided not to engage with a response. He always wanted to keep promises but circumstances usually didn't let him do even that. But he did mean it now and that was all he could and would promise.
When she mentioned work, Gabriel finally realised that she was wearing scrubs. He stepped back and whistled. "Oh my God, Bailey you made it. You got the nursing gig." Gabriel smiled widely before pecking her cheek and pulling her into a bone-crushing hug. "Dude, I am so proud of you!" He exclaimed, jostling her around in his excitement.
He put her down and pulled back, still holding her within arm's reach and his mouth opened in a silent scream. "What are you talking about you look amazing. Blue works on you babe." He nodded.

Bailey let out a very girlish squeak when he yanked her into a bigger hug, but she laughed and hugged him back. "It's just a nursing gig, Gabe. I'm not a doctor. Put me down!" She laughed again and poked his stomach, "Yeah you aren't the only hot shot around these parts. Better recognize." She fluffed her scrubs and smirked. It had been grueling and awful, but worth it. She loved being a nurse and she loved working with her best friend because it made everything easier.
When her mind drifted to Halley, Bailey's stomach clenched. What was she going to tell Halley? She had mentioned Gabriel several times, maybe not by name, but by the dreaded ex term. And although she'd been mad at him, she hadn't really said anything bad about him. It was probably sickeningly obvious how much she still adored him. Halley was going to adore him, too. She could already tell.
"What about you? Where were you headed?"

"Oh come on, we all know nurses are the real miracle workers." He said before laughing at her response to his remark. "You are fucking adorable." He slipped into French with a shake of his head.
He seemed to have lost her for a bit before she came back and asked where he was going.
"Ah...well...I uh, literally just moved in yesterday. So right now my fridge is empty so I'm just going around finding food and stuff because I'm...too lazy to unpack. There's just a shit ton of boxes everywhere." He laughed, running his fingers through his longish hair.
"Oh God, I need to get a haircut."

It took all she had not to melt in his arms when he spoke French. She might not have understood it exactly, but she knew it enough to know that he said something cute. Her eyebrows pulled together and she poked his cheek, "You know I don't know what you're saying when you do that." But she had never minded, she just automatically took it as something good. Otherwise she'd drive herself crazy on google translate after she left.
Bailey snorted, "Why am I not surprised? My guess is you probably don't even remember how to get around Oregon." She chewed on her lip and made the decision that she'd help him out if he was open to it. But before she could offer, he ran his fingers through his hair and she got very distracted by how jealous she was when he did it. She wanted to run her fingers through his hair. She'd always loved his hair, it was so soft and pretty, just like him. She shook her head to keep from being too dazed.
"How about this; we go to my apartment so that I can change and grab my scissor kit and then we go grocery shopping for your apartment, you can show me your apartment and I can cut your hair and help you unpack. Deal?" It was a lot, she realized it was a lot. But it was just what they did. She was such a care taking type of person that it made sense for her to help where she could.

Gabriel laughed lightly when she poked his cheek. "I know. My brain works weird, you've always known that." He responded before rolling his eyes at her jab. "I really don't. To be fair, this place has gotten way bigger than when we were still here." He pointed out before he was bombarded with what made Bailey who she was.
The woman was not shy about inserting herself into things and that was another reason why Gabriel had gotten sucked in. He liked her assertiveness. It also told him they were back to being them and he was glad.
"Yes. Please God yes." He wrapped one arm around her and turned her around, his memory of her place, at least, hadn't changed. "It's a mess, Diz. Like an after photo of the Titanic." He painted the detail for her as they walked towards her apartment.

She was hooked. Minutes, that's all it had taken for him to come back and sweep her up like nothing had happened. She was back to taking care of him and making sure that he was settled. And he was making her dizzy and mushy like she was twelve years old with her first crush. He had been her first crush and her biggest crush. The very fact that he'd paid her any mind had astounded her then as much as it did now.
The very fact that he could lead her to where she was living was proof if anything that he hadn't completely forgotten her while he was away. She laced her fingers through the hand that was draped over her shoulder and she walked with him, trying not to overthink how colossally wrong this could go at any moment. "You've always been so bad about keeping your things situated. I think your mind goes berserk on your living quarters and you're just too busy to notice it." Which would have made sense for her to be the same, but she was quite the opposite.
While her words often gushed everywhere, her things were all placed in specific spots that did not leave those spots. It wasn't that she was a neat freak, she was just paranoid that she'd forget something if it was out of place. Her mind often got in the way and with the way her things were arranged, she didn't have to think about it. She looped her free arm around his waist and leaned into him, "No judgment about the fact that I still live in the same place as when I graduated?"

The main difference between Gabriel and Bailey was exactly in the way they were seeing the scenario they were in right then. She was waiting for the other shoe to drop but he was strapped in and ready to go.
"I am though. I really am." He chuckled. "But, cluttered as I am in life, brain's still working. I learned how to walk, talk, go potty, learn five languages and play three instruments all in a span of five years. Steel trap." He tapped the side of his head and grinned down at Bailey.
Narrowing his eyes, Gabriel shook his head and turned back to the road they were walking on. "Not at all. It's so close to town and school, it's perfect." He squeezed her arm lightly.

As he began to list all of the incredible things he could do, Bailey rolled her eyes back in her head and scrunched her nose. She knew all of what he could do and she was impressed, obviously. But she also knew he liked to toot his own horn and she was not the type to do the same. Who could blame him though? He was perfect. "Oh golly, I'm so impressed. That brain of yours also goes a little nuts, if I recall correctly. You're looney tunes, love." But so was she.
Bailey grinned up at him and nodded, "That and I dunno, call me sentimental, but there's a lot of stuff that I remember from that apartment. I wasn't ready to give it up." She wasn't ready to give the memories of him up if she were to be honest. She turned her head into his chest and took a long breath. He always smelled so nice, she just wanted to flood herself in it.
"You're gonna die when you see Rufus. And I think he might die when he sees you, too. He's become a bit of a biter though."

"Hey! You happen to love looney tunes as I recall. We'd go for hours just vegging on the couch on weekends." He let his fingers run down her side before tickling her a little.
"Sentimental." He responded with a cheeky grin, though he knew she also somehow meant him. Part of him wondered whether that meant she still had his things there. They hadn't had a messy breakup but that didn't mean she didn't dump his things in a box and burned them one night.
He most certainly hadn't though. In fact there two boxes labeled Dizzy in his apartment that he half hoped they would go through tonight.
At the mention of the pet they had gotten together, Gabriel's eyes widened and he looked down at her with an adoring smile. "That kid can bite me any time oh my God I'm so happy he's still alive. You're such a good mother." Gabriel hugged her sideways and pressed his lips on her head, running his hand up and down her arm.
They continued their lighthearted conversation until they finally arrived at her apartment. He took a step back to let Bailey get through. He honestly couldn't wait to walk into the warm familiarity that was Bailey's home. His home for a while too.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," She waved a hand dismissively before erupting in giggles when he tickled her. She curled into his side and groaned, "You're such a pain." But she loved it, in every single way. Bailey tried not to focus on the fact that she was incredibly sentimental. It was hard not to be with the things he'd left behind for her. She still slept in many of his t-shirts that he'd left behind in her apartment. They'd lost their smell only months after he left which had been meltdown central for her. However, she hadn't stopped sleeping in them still.
She couldn't help but worry that he'd be a little weirded out by that. That she had his shirts and so much of his stuff still. Outside of his shirts though, she had put everything else neatly in boxes labeled with his nickname that were kept in her closet out of sight. It was still not out of mind, but at least wasn't at the forefront. He wasn't the judgmental type, at least, he never had been with her so she knew her worries were silly.
"He's a stubborn little thing, I'll tell you," Just like they were.
Once they made it to the apartment, she dug her keys out and she pursed her lips as she wiggled the key in. After a firm kick on the door, it opened and she pushed the door so that she could walk in and stumble to find the light switch. Her apartment was shabby, it wasn't fancy by any means, but it was quiet and warm. Placing her key on the ring beside the coat closet, she turned to look over her shoulder, "I'm just going to go change, Ruf is in the same spot he's always been and uh, so is everything else. I'll be right back!" She scurried down the hall to her room and slid in on her socks, shuffling through her drawers to find something cute that she could wear.
When she emerged, she was just wearing typical Bailey fashion, jeans and a cute t-shirt with her hair still a frightful mess of curls, "Gabe?"

Gabriel had always loved the reactions he got from Bailey whenever he did literally anything. There was just something so pure and unguarded about them that he found undeniably charming. It had always bothered him that her view on herself was always so skewered but he loved watching her in those little moments when he saw her.
It was like falling in love with her all over again.
"It's not like that's a surprise anymore though." He grinned mischievously as he watched her open the door. He wanted to remark that he could fix that but the jammed door was part of the whole charm, he supposed.
The first thing he noticed was that the smell was the same. It was a weird thing to notice but it smelled distinctly of Bailey and immediately he felt like he was home. "Fuck," he whispered to himself as he walked in, now noting that everything was literally in the same place, albeit a few new things added and replacing some other things here and there it all just seemed so comfortingly familiar.
He pushed the door closed and gravitated towards where Rufus was and sat down on a stool directly in front of his aquarium. "You don't remember me do you, little buddy. I was your daddy before but I fucked up. Now I'm back, isn't that nice?" He snorted and rolled his eyes at himself.
He sat on the stool and slowly turned in a circle, looking at everything, quietly consuming Bailey's familiarity. "I don't wanna leave." He whined to himself before straightening up when Bailey called out to him.
"Yeah, still here." He responded and stood up, meeting her halfway. "I remember that t-shirt." He grinned, plucking it in between his fingers and pulling her towards him by that. "If I recall correctly, you picked this out for me, right?"

Bailey grinned when she found him near where she'd told him he'd find their pet. It was surreal, like a strong sense of deja vu washing over her because she could remember so many times walking out of her bedroom to the very scene in front of her. He looked slightly older now, matured, but his smile was still the same and the way he made her home feel homier was also exactly how she remembered it.
He tugged on her shirt and she locked her arms around his waist, pursing her lips and looking at the ceiling in thought, "You know, you're probably right. Which kind of worries me that my wardrobe is severely outdated. Looks like a shopping trip is in my near future." This time, however, she'd at least have a girl that could help her out in that department. Bailey was all about the quirky t-shirts with funny sayings and crazy sweaters. She didn't know much else.
Bailey dropped her eyes from the ceiling down to his and she tilted her head to the side, "So, how weird is it that I haven't changed a damn thing about this place? I told you, sentimental. It's gross."

It indeed was surreal being back here, with them in this exact position in this very spot in the apartment. It also felt incredibly comfortable. Like they could slip into old patterns so easily. And he was living for it, if he was being honest. It was like ten years hadn't passed between them, which, admittedly, was going to be a problem some time down the road.
He shrugged when she mentioned shopping. Gabriel was a fashion fiend, he had to admit, but again, Bailey's fashion sense had always been part of her charm. She didn't quite care and he loved that about her. It isn't often that Gabriel didn't look his best but that was driven by narcissism, something which Bailey lacked, which was obviously a good thing. On top of that, she just looked good effortlessly.
"Are you kidding me? I loved coming over here for this very reason." Gabriel resisted the urge to just swoop down and kiss her. It would have been so easy.
"Alright, cupcake, we're burnign daylight over here and those boxes aren't going to unpack themselves." He grinned and tugged her towards the door.
It was a good thing that everything was basically within walking distance so a car was not necessary. Soon enough, they arrived at his apartment and he opened the door to what seemed to just be a mountain of boxes. "Tada."

As he opened the door to his apartment, she wasn't sure there was really an apartment beneath all of the boxes. She stood on her tiptoes to look around them and her eyebrows furrowed and her lips pressed together. It was definitely about to be a long night of unpacking, but she couldn't say that she minded much. She had the next day off and it gave them a chance to do a lot of talking and catching up that they had to do.
Bailey looked up at him with the same expression, "You need all the help you can get, Ducky." She took a deep breath and rubbed her hands together, putting on her organizer face. "Are the boxes all scattered or are they in the places they need to be unpacked in? Who am I kidding, they're totally scattered." She was in full micromanager mode and tapped her finger to her lower lip.
"Alright, here's what we're gonna do to start. We'll get them all sorted in their designated rooms and then we can unpack from there. That way we aren't running around more than we have to, sound good?" Her eyes turned back to him and she realized she probably looked like she did at work, very calculating and precise. She didn't really like going through things willy nilly. Having a plan always suited her way better and she just felt like it accomplished more in a shorter amount of time.
