never asking why
He smiled against her lips and wrapped his arms around her. It just felt good and right. Like he was stepping back into his teens when all he had to care about were his grades and his friends.
A chill ran down his spine when Bailey traced his jaw with her fingers, a low chuckle escaping when Will was mentioned. "He has a girl of his own now would you believe. Someone actually got through his shell." He grinned, genuinely grateful that Cassidy was in their lives.
"Oh he was a complete baby about it." Gabriel said before grimacing. "He has all the right to be, of course. I just...didn't want to miss this job opportunity you know? It's not like I can rely on my parents money forever." He winced at how harsh that sounded.
He forced a smile when Bailey told him to say hi to Will. "Will do. I think he blocked my number but I might be able to get through to his girlfriend." He chuckled lightly. "I still can't believe those words can come out of my mouth finally."
He sighed happily before sliding one arm under Bailey's knees while the other wrapped around her waist. He stood up and walked over to his bedroom, depositing her gently and kissing the top of her head. "Hold on."
He dried his hair as he went to the room with the mementos box, piling them on top of each other and bringing them over into his room, setting it down on the floor. He knelt down by Bailey's feet and sat, leaning his back against the bed.
Kissing her knee, he laid his head on her lap as he looked through the box once more, pulling out the stack of notes they had passed each other during class and looking through them to find the very first one. It was creased and pretty fragile but the juvenile handwriting was still quite clear and he smiled. "I can't believe how much of a dork I was even back then...telling you how pretty you looked during lunch." He let her read the note as he looked through more of them.

where did you go to end up right back here?
A girl of his own, Bailey hadn't expected that in a million years. The man she knew showed little interest in anyone, let alone in the opposite sex. She had been aware of Gabriel's attempts when they were younger, but Will had always purposefully done something that would result in them failing. The way Gabe talked about her, Bailey could tell that it was more than just a silly fling or a meaningless relationship. Will didn't do unnecessary or meaningless. He'd never waste his time with it. Even so, she was shocked.
Bailey remained quiet as he explained Will's reaction. She didn't blame him. She didn't blame either of them. She understood where William was coming from, Gabe was all he'd ever had from what she saw and while that had changed, it didn't make everything easy. But she wanted what was best for Gabe and she knew that even if he was mad, Will did too. "If you go back any time soon, I'd like to go with you. I want to meet this Saintly woman that managed to get through our stubborn boy. Besides, you know he'll be more understanding of you staying if he knows I'm still here. He always liked me," She grinned.
She squeaked as he hefted her up and carried her to his bedroom. It was sparse, but there was enough for her to know that's what it was. He dumped her on his bed and she grunted. Before she was able to protest him leaving, he came back with their box and settled beside her. Her fingers slid through his hair as he laid his head on her lap and she smiled when he handed the note up to her. Reading through his chicken scratch, she laughed, "It was dorky, yes, but it was so sweet. I always looked forward to getting them." Bailey continued stroking his hair and she leaned down to press her lips against his cheek, "Did you keep all of them?"

The idea of traveling with Bailey excited Gabriel. They had been on many road trips together so they knew what kind of travel companion the other was. And the reunion with Will would be the icing on the cake.
He could already imagine Cassidy and Bailey bonding quicker than glue and how adorable they would be together. His girl and Will's girl. It was a dream.
"He did. Sometimes I had to wonder whether he liked you more than he liked me. It was very unfair." Gabriel chuckled.
As he rifled through the notes he had kept, Bailey's question had him look up at her with sleepy eyes. "Yeah. Might have stolen some off you but most of them were already with me." Gabriel smiled before pressing a kiss to her knee, reading through some more of them.
Then he started reading aloud, laughing at their joint absurdity. He even found some that had transpired amongst the three of them. Little drawings in the corner of the pages, comments Will made that showed how disgusted he was of the pair.
Somehow he had ended up on the bed, his head still in Bailey's lap as his eyes drooped from Bailey's fingers running through his hair.

Bailey could almost feel the heaviness of exhaustion beginning to overtake him. She was happy to have him laying in her lap, and happier that he seemed so content with her there. Nothing really had changed between them. Just a little time, some growing up and maybe a few gray hairs, but she still adored him as much as she had when she was a stupid teenager.
Their relationship had been nearly perfect, even on the days when it got rocky. She'd ached for that same connection after he left, only to realize now that she hadn't found it because she still felt it with him. Even a decade of no contact couldn't keep her from loving him. It couldn't be the same, she knew, but Bailey had hope that they'd start over in some ways and maintain the same feeling in others.
Her fingers started moving from his hair to his face and she stroked the length of his jaw and rubbed his temple gently. Bailey bent down to press her lips to his forehead and smiled, "Do you want to go to sleep, lovey? We can finish exploring tomorrow, yeah?" Her voice was soft and quiet, a hum against his skin.

Bailey's voice drifted through his wavering consciousness and he gave a small hum of acknowledgement before getting up off her lap to sleepily smile at her. "You're not leaving, right?" He asked. Even before she could answer, he was already tugging her further up the bed.
He opened his eyes a crack to look at her, the lazy smile still on his lips. "I love you Bailey. Never stopped. I'm so happy you're still here." He said through mumbles as he stroked her cheek with the tips of his fingers. No sooner as he did so, he was out like a light.
